Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, and S6 Active comparative review

Introduction

Samsung released the tow versions of their flagship of the year in MWC. The smartphones known as Galaxy S6 and a curved version called Galaxy S6 Edge. The Galaxy S6 is the regular version of the smartphone and Edge has the curved display as a name suggests. The edge display idea was taken from Galaxy Note Edge which was the company’s first curved display phablet. According to the specs the handsets are identical and there ate not much difference found between both of them instead of some, but Samsung wants to do more and for rough handling company launched habitually the commando version of the handset named Galaxy S6 Active. The Active version of the handset comes with many improvements and many good features. There are many differences found in other two versions and in Active version and people wonder when they see the differences. Here we are going to disclose each layer of the handsets from depth and gives the clear options to the users.

Design and Build

Samsung always has a unique design and these are the premium handsets of the company so the company use t he quality material for making the smartphones more beautiful and compact and easy in grip. Samsung used brushed metal frame for designing the body of the handsets which gives the enough endurance to the mobiles and for giving the elegant look the company used Gorilla Glass for the back and front panel of the handsets which increase the beauty of the mobiles, but the handsets are not for the tough use and for fulfilling this purpose company designed Galaxy S6 Active and for double the endurance of the mobile company gives plastic corner on the handsets which give more powerful look to the device and, of course, the endurance gets double and easy in handling. The dimension wise Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 are not much different, but Galaxy S6 Active has some points. The regular S6 has 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm dimensions and has 138 grams of weight; Galaxy S6 Edge has 142.1 x 70.1 x 7 mm dimensions and carries 132 grams of weight but the Galaxy S6 Active 146.9 x 73.6 x 8.8 mm by bezel measures and the weight of the handset is same as the regular S6.

Galaxy-S6-versions

Display and Operating system

This is the main difference found between the Galaxy S6 and the Edge version. All the three have the same size of the screen as 5.1 inches and the pixels resolutions are also same as 1440 x 2560 pixels. The screen is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 which keeps the handsets away from the unwanted marks.

These all are the Android Phones and runs the latest Android 5.0.2 lollipop operating system. The operating system is not only improved, in fact, its more compact and use  the minimum battery power for running the smartphones and increase the battery life as well because of less consumption. The operating system is combined with Samsung’s own designed TouchWiz user interface which is also improved and enhances the working ability of the operating system and provides the lot many options to the users and gives the pleasure able treat to the users.

Processor and Memory

Three of them are embedded with Samsung’s own designed Exynos chipset maybe later we will see the snapdragon featured version of the handsets. The three of them has a same processor, GPU and chipset as; Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 processor, Exynos 7420 system on chip and Mali-T760 GPU for handling the graphics. So there is no difference found in the working ability of t he smartphones. Now we move forward towards the capacity of the handsets like RAM, ROM, and expandable memory. The three are equipped with 3 GB RAM and comes with three types of ROM options; 32/64and 128GB but there is a drawback all of them are free from memory card and no card slot present for increasing the ROM capacity externally so users need to be careful while selecting the handset ROM.

Camera

All of them have same powerful camera. Samsung placed 16 megapixel rear camera with 2988 x 5312 pixels, optical image stabilization, autofocus, LED flash 16 MP, 2988 x 5312 pixels, optical image stabilization, autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, Auto HDR and panorama and has 5 megapixel front-facing camera with 1080p@30fps, dual video call and Auto HDR. The extra features of the camera need to set one time and after that the functions get activated in every use.

Battery

If a company wants to run the handset in logical and perfect manner they need to place the powerful battery with well enough backup time. Samsung chose different battery for the regular and the edge version and for the active version. The regular Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge has Non-removable Li-Ion 2550 mAh battery and the Active version is energized by Non-removable Li-Ion 3500 mAh battery and beside that the handsets supports wireless charging which is possible with the Qi/PMA charger which is specially designed for the Galaxy S6 series and also provide the rapid-charging option and with this users charged 50% battery in just a few minutes. There is no doubt that all the three are energized with powerful battery but the draw is that the handsets have non-removable battery and users need to replace the whole device if battery does not work properly or get dead.

Extra Features

Here are major differences found in all these devices. Some of them are common in three but in the account of protection Galaxy S6 Active has the upper edge in both of the other versions. The common protected features in three of them are fingerprint scanner which is approved by PayPal and by using these option users can secure their device with the finger impression, but the lack protection features is the regular Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge is not approve by IP67 which means the smartphones are not water and dust resistance but the Galaxy As Active has IP67 certified which gives  the protection to the handset against the dust and water and the handset remain alive for 30 minutes under 1 meter water. Beside this IP67 certificate the Galaxy S6 Active also has MIL-STD-810G certified - salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock resistant which means it the power gets fluctuate while the handset is on charging the handset automatically shut the current supply and save the handset from demerges.

Final Words

There is no doubt that Samsung released the power handsets and all the three are well enough to use and must better in performance but after reviewing the specs deeply we suggest that the Active version is more durable and efficient than the other two versions of the Android phone. There is no mean that the other versions of the handsets are not efficient but the regular Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are lacking in water and dust resistance and the thermal shock ability and can not resist against them.
