LG taking precautions with the G6

Note 7 was in the spotlight shortly after its release. The first excitement was of the device itself. It was a beautiful powerhouse sporting so many features that made us drool. Then the worst happened, exploding phones. According to the recent investigations carried out by Samsung, it’s been confirmed that the fault lied with the batteries of the Note 7.

LG electronics has been conducting extensive battery testing on the new LG G6 to ensure that their product does not blow up like the Note 7. LG’s spokesman Lee Seok-jong stated on Korea Herald that they will improve the safety and quality of their new flagship devices in order to ensure consumer safety.

The company will employ the use of heat pipes in order to siphon away heat from all its core heating components. The technique was first introduced by Sony, using heat pipes as a smartphone cooling mechanism in the Xperia Z2. Then Microsoft employed the same method in the Lumia 950 XL. Interesting to note is the fact that Note 7 featured the same cooling method but it did not prevent the systems from catching fire and exploding. Keeping this incident in mind, LG is still running rigorous battery tests to keep the phone from overheating. The spokesman stated that the company is testing at temperatures 15% greater than the safety standards to ensure that the device runs safely under normal conditions.

After the Note 7 fiasco, no company is overlooking their safety checks and are undertaking serious checks and rechecks. LG is doing exactly the same and we’re expecting the new G6 to hit the markets next month at the MWC.
