Foldable screens almost a reality now

We’ve all watched those sci-fi movies with exceptionally cool holographic displays. That era may be far away but tech of the date has allowed the making of a functioning foldable screen possible. Electronic industry giants like Samsung and LG point out to the availability of smart devices with foldable screens.

The Korea Herald tells us that Samsung intends to launch around 100K units of a phone that unfolds into a 7” tablet! Exciting isn't it?

Samsung has had no issues marketing a curved display like on the Edge devices. The company is already working on screens that fold inward and states that it will face no problem manufacturing a screen that rolls outward.

While having no technical obstructions towards this marvelous invention, the matter at hand is the “marketability” of such a handset along with the cost-profit index. Samsung will surely take some time before reaching a final decision and we might see the next gen foldable phones late in 2017.

LG, for nearly 3 years now, has been working on foldable screen. The company released its G Flex device back in 2013. The company is technologically superior when compared to its rival but instead of using the tech on its own phones like what Samsung intends to do, LG plans on licensing its new panels to secondary companies like Apple or Huawei.

Whatever the case may be, 2017 is turning out to be a very interesting year with lots of tech marvels to look forward to.
