Report Claims Apple iPhone Camera App may Get Augmented Reality Feature

Tim Cook Apple CEO has formerly said that he perceives more potential in augmented reality than the virtual reality in mobiles. He further said that the company will continue to invest a lot of money in augmented reality. A new report claims that Apple is working to incorporate augmented reality into its iPhone’s camera application.

A person familiar with the topic reports that the company’s effort to contain AR in iPhones includes technology from Flyby Media and Metaio, two of the companies that were acquired by Apple in recent years.

To remind, Apple acquired Metaio, a German firm which created virtual product showrooms and other products for client such as IKEA, in May last year.  The Flyby Media, on the other hand, was obtained by Apple earlier this year.

Notably, Apple is also supposed to be working on augmented reality based wearable glasses. The report also added that, it will contain added AR capabilities, Apple spots people using iPhones to point the smartphone at a real worl object and have it be recognized.

The report claims that the workers of both Metaio and Flyby Media are working with Apple’s camera team for augmented reality feature.  The report also claims that Apple will launch the Augmented Reality as devkit/software development kit for applications developers much like it released for Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

According to reports, another use of augmented reality being considered by Apple is for automated driving platform. Based on previous leaks, the company is said to launch iPhone 8 instead of iPhone 7s, the device is expected to come in three sizes with OLED display.
