Google Hardware Challenges Amazon and Apple

On Tuesday, Google launched Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL smartphones and new consumer electronics devices for the home. The company is planting itself determinedly in the hardware business to compete with Apple.

On September 4, Google announced Google Pixel, Wi-Fi router, smart speaker for the living room, and virtual reality headset. It clearly shows that Google aims to compete to Apple, Amazon Inc, and other Android smartphone manufacturers.


Google hardware Chief Rick Osterloh stated in an interview with Reuters that, “The thinking is that if we can work on hardware and software together, we can innovate much better.” The Vice President of product management Mario Queiroz added that, Google has initiated to take a much more incorporated approach towards design and supply chain management under a new structure.


He also said that, the learning from one product is promoting another product. Latest Google Pixel smartphones are designed and developed by Google and HTC will provide as the contract manufacturer.


To recall, Google Pixel packs 5.0 inches AMOLED display and Google Pixel features a 5.5 inch screen with 1080 x 1920 resolutions. The devices run Android 7.1 Nougat and powered by Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821. The smartphones has 32/128 GB internal storage with 4 GB RAM.


The Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL house a 12 MP rear camera with f/2.0, phase detection & laser autofocus, and dual-LED. There is an 8MP secondary camera for selfies. Both supports fingerprint, Google Pixel gets power via 2770 mAh battery, while a 3450 mAh battery wakes the Google Pixel up. Both devices come in Very Black, Quite Silver, and Really Blue colors.
