Microsoft patent for a foldable phone

The success of Microsoft’s products is very visible in the IT market. Fabled products like Windows OS, Surface notebooks and tablets are just the tip of the iceberg.

Monday morning of 16th January, Windows central posted an interesting news regarding ideas forwarding to a new generation of Smartphones with a unique design. A foldable mobile device

 

 

Be assured that this is not a confirmation of the release of such a product but merely a patent that has been awarded to the company for future possible manufacturing of the device. This might be a new series of the Surface Smartphones. A new addition to the huge Surface family that has devices like the Surface hybrids, Surface Pro and Surface Book, Surface Studio and Surface Hub

A glimpse on the possible design shows dual and triple hinged devices that have multiple configurations of being folded into a phone-like device and a larger tablet. There are hints towards triple screens along with a different slide-out model. It is interesting to note that Microsoft was also awarded a patent for electronic hinges that would be necessary for the construction of such a device.

 

Though a patent does not always directly translate into a product, it certainly makes for an intriguing read and we’re already interested to see how things turn out. Surface Phone might be out and become a huge success.
