OnePlus unveiled its first concept phone at CES 2020 earlier this year. The OnePlus Concept One, made in partnership with McLaren, included an electrochromic glass to hide the camera when not in use. OnePlus is back again with a new concept device, called the OnePlus 8T Concept, which extends the same tech to give us a phone with a color-shifting back.

Unlike the regular OnePlus 8T that has a normal glass back, OnePlus 8T Concept offers an all-new rear covering with patterns that are inspired by natural elements. There is a color-changing film behind the glass back panel that contains metal oxide in glass and can change its color from dark blue to light silver. OnePlus said that the film switches between the two colors when the metal oxide activates. This enables the back of the OnePlus 8T Concept to light up when receiving new notifications. Moreover, the OnePlus 8T Concept phone also has a mmWave radar module that transmits and receives electromagnetic waves. The presence of mmWave module enables OnePlus 8T Concept to use touchless gesture controls, including ‘double-tap' and ‘distance recognition.' These can be used for accepting or rejecting a voice call by covering the camera setup with your hand. You can also cover the camera to change the color of the phone's back cover.
