Malware: the backdoor Adups also touches the smartphones of Archos and Lenovo

A recent discovery shows that things are more serious than expected.

December 26, 2016 - Developing Story

A backdoor created by Adups touches about 700 million Android smartphones and until recently Europeans thought they are in a digital shelter because the main manufacturer affected was the American Blu, which had installed the software containing a backdoor to Chinese servers.

According to a Trustlook report, the facts would be more serious because Blu would not be the only concerned party, but there would actually be 43 affected manufacturers, including Archos, ZTE and Lenovo. The software of the Adups is normally supposed to simplify the installation of firmware updates on the terminals, via the OTA (over the air) technology. Practical in some situations, except that the publisher has planned a backdoor to servers located in China.

Allows hackers to target 700 million Android smartphones

A vulnerability that would allow hackers to steal lots of information about the smartphone or its owners and even take control of the phone remotely. With manufacturers like Lenovo, ZTE or Archos, the problem takes on a new dimension. Especially since we still do not know which models are involved in case of each manufacturer. However, there is a way to know if you are concerned about these links: at Trustlook or Debloater (Windows and MacOS).

One understands why the malware Adups touches 700 million smartphones under Android, because having managed to infect several leaders of the market, whose sales are done abroad, it is the whole planet that is concerned. Since then, Adups indicates that it is working on a new version corrected, but after this type of very unhealthy processes, it is difficult to see how one could have confidence again in their computer solution.
