Finally, Xiaomi unveils its first 5G smartphone The Mi Mix 3. It is completely a bezel-less device having 19.5:9 aspects ratio, Pop-up Mechanism based Dual Selfie Sliding Camera Setup, AI powered Dual Rear Cameras, Super Slow movie mode, Snapdragon 845 Chipset, Adreno 630 GPU, 6/8/10 GB RAM, and 128/256/512 GB ROM storage, 4000mAh Battery, Fast and Wireless Charging Options.
Design and Display
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is made of metal body, 7000-series aluminum. It has a beautiful look similar to the Vivo NEX. There is no notch or chin for the front camera and other sensors, instead it, there is a hidden motorized-camera slide equipped with dual selfie lenses and other helping sensors. The Home Key and Navigation Bar have gone. On the back, you are getting vertically-oriented dual cameras and a rear fingerprint scanner. Unfortunately, it is not yet IP6X rated to ensure dust and water resistance.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 sports a bigger 6.4 inches Full View Display and amazing 93.4% screen-to-body ratio. The Handset has an AMOLED screen, FHD+ resolution, 403 PPI Density and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on front.
OS and Xiao AI Assistant
The Xiaomi Smartphone runs Android 8.1 (Oreo) which is smooth but not the latest as we know these days the Android 9.0 (Pie) has roll out and many devices are up-grading old version. It is wrapped in Xiaomi custom interface, The MIUI 10 so there are some software enhancements over the previous MIUI 9.
The Mi Mix 3 has its own voice assistant which is called “Xiao AI”. It supports only Chinese, but forthcoming updates will add further languages support. It is not completely surprising due to the Samsung has its Bixby AI Assistant and Apple has its Siri Voice Command already. The Mi Mix 3 uses a dedicated button to call Xiao AI Assistant.
5G Version
The most excited feature of the Mi Mix 3 is the 5G connectivity. Yes! It would be the first time a Xiaomi smartphone will support such a faster network. The 5G download speeds will be 10X faster than 4G speeds. Although the newly launched Mi Mix 3 supports only 4G VoLTE, Xiaomi announced that 5G version of Mi Mix 3 will be available in earlier 2019. So if you wish to experience the amazing 5G network, then wait until Q1 or at least January 2019 but it at least facilitated.
Quad Camera Setup
After Vivo and Oppo, Xiaomi has also joined the Sliding Camera Competition. What a good in cameras! Nothing is missing for excellent selfie and movei shoot dreaming. The Mi Mix 3 comes with Mechanical Pop-up Dual Selfie Cameras of 24MP + 5MP Resolutions. Both are quick responsive Sony optics, the first one is wider lens and the second is depth sensor. It lets you gain a worthy selfie shooting experience.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 boasts Dual 12MP + 12MP Rear Camera lenses having f/1.8 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. You can shoot impressive photographs, 4K movies, Super Slow-motion HD videos at long 960fps. It supports AI Camera Technology, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Real Time Long Exposure and Night mode to perform well in low light. With AI Scene Recognition, the Mi Mix 3 can identify scenes and objects like flower, spoon, skin, gender and age etc.
Face Unlock and Fingerprint Sensor: The newer Mi flagship smartphone brings an advanced facial recognititon system to offer the most secure and fast Face Unlock. Fingerprint Sensor is embedded on rear as usual rather than under the touchscreen.
Internal Specs
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. It is the best-in-class chip based on 10nm processor, coupled with Octa-core 2.8GHz CPU and the latest Adreno 630 GPU for safe long running of device. The Combo ensures the blazing fast performance and excellent graphics.
Xiaomi might offer some intelligent software updates in future for Mix 3 to boost entire performance such as Huawei introduced AI machine learning task, CPU Turbo and GPU Turbo technologies.
The one more fact is that Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 launches in three variants of RAM and ROM, the first standard model has 6GB RAM and 128GB internal Storage, the second variant houses 8GB RAM and 256GB ROM Storage, and the last premium option comes with incredible 10GB RAM and 512GB Storage. This 512GB model will be available only in Europe.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is backed by a Li-Ion 4000mAh Non-removable Battery which is sufficient for a long talk and play time. It supports Fast Charging as well as Wireless Charging.
Pricing, Pre-order and Shipment
The 64GB standard Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Price is CNY 3,299 ($475), the 256GB model costs 3,599 ($515); whoever the 512GB option of Mix 3 which is also called Forbidden City Edition is offered for CNY 3,999 ($575). The Pre-orders for the smartphone have started on October 25; however, the sales and shipment will begin on November 1st, 2018.
