Last Update 2019-02-12

Vivo X20 Plus UD is the first smartphone across the world to get an under-display fingerprint reader. It is really an amazing device which packs some new technology features. There is a vivo Image Cube to beautify pictures. It has separate ES9318 DAC chipset for music lovers. The X20 Plus UD is featured with Game Engine support to offer boosted gaming experience. There is Face Wake security which has not much difference from Face Unlock. The handset comes with big 6.43 inches Super AMOLED display, FHD+ resolution, Snapdragon 660, Adreno 512, 4GB RAM, 128GB Memory, 3900mAh battery, 12MP + 5MP dual primary shooters, and a 12MP Selfie Cam.

Pros:

1 – Bigger Full-Screen display (18:9)

2 – Dual Cameras and Face Wake security

3 – Under-screen Fingerprint Scanner

4 – Better gaming and sound performance

Cons:

1 – Traditional Android 7.1.1 OS

2 – 3900mAh battery despite 6.43” display

3 – Still FHD+ resolution

4 – Doesn’t provide water resistance

Design

The X20 Plus UD is not IP certified which is annoying because it does not offer dust and water resistance, and your premium smartphone can be damaged with submersions.

Vivo X20 Plus UD is fabricated with metal frame. It is a 6-inch smartphone which has a total weight of 182 grams. The sides are 7.5 mm thick. It is an elegant smartphone which is designed in such a way that a synaptic fingerprint sensor is beautifully equipped under the display panel near the bottom. The fingerprint sensor uses photoelectric reflection where light emits and goes through the outer glass to reach your finger in order to verify you. The whole process takes less than a second to unlock the device. Besides this, the UD fingerprint sensor works also for online payment. It is a pleasant change which is attractive for a lot of users.

A bigger and bezel-less screen lay under the 2.5D curved glass. An earpiece and a lens are mounted above the screen. The bottom side is armed with speaker grilles and a USB port. At the back, two camera lenses are raised up and equipped horizontally beside a LED flash. Design wise, it is overall beautiful.

Display

You will be pleased with Vivo X20 Plus UD when you have come to know that it is one of the biggest display smartphones. Not only that, but it has also an 18:9 aspect ratio which touches the hearts of the fans. The display type is Super AMOLED which is better than others in case of providing brighter and more colorful pictures. You have also getting rid of OLED display issues. As we know that the fingerprint sensor was planned to put under the OLED display but Super AMOLED display has used in practice.

All is fine except the 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution. Higher the resolution is, clearer the pictures are. The resolution plays a key role in offering brightness and Vivo used only FHD+ resolution for a bigger, sharper and infinity screen. The indoors brightness performance is cool but the outdoors performance is not much impressive. The contrast ratio; however, is good.

Performance

Vivo X20 Plus UD is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, a mid-range chipset which is currently used for the latest technology based devices in order to attain flagship-level performance. The SD660 SoC is designed especially for performance and battery. It is 20% faster than its predecessor. It supports advanced LTE modem, Bluetooth v5.0, dual band wifi, fast charging, dual camera technology, and higher graphics.

There is a 2.2GHz faster Octa-core processor which ensures that you can play two or more apps simultaneously. To improve multi-tasking speed, a 4GB RAM is set inside there. Its Gaming Engine helps the user to enjoy a smooth gaming experience. Adreno 512 GPU offers you to get beautiful 3D graphics but not as those of other flagship level devices. Aside from this, the X20 Plus UD gets a separate ES9318 DAC chipset which is dedicated to boosting sound quality and loudness. So, music lovers can enjoy more songs.

Camera and Face Wake

Camera wise, the Vivo X20 Plus UD is so good. All vivo efforts are not in vain. There are 12MP (f/1.8) + 5MP dual camera lenses, one is wider and the other lens is for perfect blurred background pictures of portrait mode. You can shoot full HD videos at 30fps. The photography performance is clear and better as compared to video recording. The camera interface has slightly changed over the years. The Vivo Image Cube has made available to add beauty effects while shooting.

Vivo X20 Plus UD comes with the 12MP front camera and we’ve no doubt in its splendid selfie performance. The highlight feature of the device is Face Wake which is a new name of Face Unlock security. The Selfie camera performs a scan of your face to unlock a smartphone. It is supported with some unique facial recognition features.

Software and Battery

Vivo X20 Plus UD is running on Android OS v7.1.1 (Nougat) which is an upgraded version of previous Android software but it does not support all latest features as the newest Android 8.0 (Oreo). One good thing is that it is more polished with Funtouch OS 3.2 which supports some pre-installed apps, Easy Share, App Clone, Vivo Cloud Storage, and customizable gestures etc.

Let’s talk about handset life; the Vivo X20 Plus UD has a 3900mAh non-removable battery which gives the unsatisfied performance. We mean to say that Vivo placed only 3900mAh battery for a 6.43" display smartphone. As we know a bigger display consumes more battery power and your X20 Plus UD battery can drain quickly which is aggressive for a user. However, there is a fast charging option which recharges your battery power instantly.

Conclusion

Vivo X20 Plus UD is a complete good package except for its lower display resolution and battery. It is the first under-display fingerprint smartphone, and having a bigger bezel-less screen, efficient chipset, enhanced music and Face Wake unlock so buy it absolutely if you want to experience a newer type fingerprint sensor which is faster as well.
