Introduction
Oppo A92s has quietly launched in China as the latest smartphone offering from the company. The phone has a unique quad-camera module at the back and has a dual hole-punch display up front. There is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and the phone supports 5G networks. The phone is the first in the world powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 800 5G SoC announced last December. The SoC allows for manufacturers to make affordable 5G smartphones, and the OPPO A92s is a perfect example. It is up for pre-orders in China and will go on sale on April 29. This new phone launch comes just days after the launch of the Oppo Ace 2. The Oppo A92s 5G is available in black and white, at the price of 2199 yuan (about $310) for the version 6 GB of RAM + 128 GB of storage. The 8 GB of RAM + 128 GB of storage version cost 2,499 yuan (about $353).
Design and Display
The Oppo A92s has a flat display design that looks beautiful with dual punch-hole camera setup for front-facing cameras. The 3D glass back of the phone gets a unique square-shaped quad-camera setup. Its quad rear camera setup sits inside a square-shaped camera module with a secondary pill-shaped outline inside for better aesthetic. OPPO has adopted the side-mounted fingerprint scanner design, so you unlock the phone by placing your finger on the power button. The Oppo A92s 5G lacks water resistance like almost every phone at the price. In terms of dimensions, it measures 163.8 x 75.5 x 8.1 mm and weighs just 184 grams.
On the left bezel, we get volume up and volume down buttons. The Oppo A92s 5G has a large 6.5-inch screen. This is significantly larger even than the Moto G8 Plus’s 6.3-inch screen. This Oppo’s mid-range 5G phone has a 120Hz refresh rate for the best smooth touch experience. The IPS LCD panel of the device delivers a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels at a 20:9 aspect ratio and 401 PPI density. The display also offers an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 84.3 percent. Oppo A92s 5G’s color temperature is quite cold.
Front and rear cameras
It has a lot of cameras, four on the back and two on the front. Two of these cameras (back side) have very low-end hardware, just a 2MP sensor, but it’s much easier to give an affordable phone like this a break. The main camera has a 48MP sensor and an f/1.7 lens. The second camera is an ultra-wide with an 8MP sensor (f/2.2 aperture). And the two piddly 2MP sensors are used for depth shots and black and white photography. Despite using a low-quality depth sensor, the Oppo A92s 5G’s portrait background blurring is actually quite good. The phone also takes some of the best low light images we’ve seen at the price. It uses the same multi-exposure technique as Oppo’s more expensive models. The HDR mode is effective, but not always particularly natural-looking.
The macro mode automatically engages when you get close to your subject. It doesn’t actually let you get any closer to it and maintain focus, but it does throw the rest of the image out of focus, which makes your subject look sharper and more vital. The selfie camera setup has a 16MP primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 2MP depth shooter with f/2.4 aperture. It can take great selfies in reasonable lighting, packed with detail. The phone can record 4k and Full HD videos at 30fps.
Processor, battery, and software
The phone runs an Octa-Core MediaTek Dimensity 800 processor, with integrated 5G (SA/NSA) networks under 6 GHz. The SoC is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The Dimensity 800 is manufactured on TSMC’s 7nm process (N7), and the Oppo A92s is the first phone using this chip. As for the key features of the Dimensity 800 Chipset, it supports 5G with two carrier aggregation (2CC CA) for 30% wider high-speed layer coverage, more seamless 5G handover, and higher average throughput performance compared to other solutions that use a single carrier (1CC, no CA). It supports both standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) sub-6GHz networks. It includes multi-mode support for 2G/3G/4G and also supports Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS). The Dimensity 800 SoC includes support for services such as Voice over New Radio (VoNR). According to MediaTek, the chip’s integrated 5G modem delivers “extreme energy efficiency” and is said to be a more power-efficient design than other solutions in the market.
The MediaTek Dimensity 800 has four big ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at up to 2GHz, paired with four little ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2GHz. The Dimensity 800 has 2-channel (2x16b) LPDDR4X RAM at 2133MHz. The Oppo A92s 5G runs Android 10 OS skinned with the company’s ColorOS 7.0 interface. Battery life is one of the best reason to buy the Oppo A92s 5G. It has a 4,000 mAh sizeable battery which supports up to 18W for quick charging.
