Oppo A52 hands-on review

Introduction

After launching A92s a couple of days ago, OPPO has now announced the A52 smartphone. OPPO A52 is a slightly low-end device compared to the A92s, which packs 120Hz refresh rate display and MediaTek Dimensity 800 chipset. The new A52 model touts a punch-hole screen with standard 60Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 665 SoC, and 12MP quad rear camera setup. The phone is fueled by a whopping 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support, while Android 10-based ColorOS 7 takes care of its software side of things. The Oppo A52 comes in two color variants – Blue and Black respectively. It is priced at 1599 yuan ($226) and is already on sale in China with a free pair of standard Oppo earphones.

Design and display

Oppo A52 has an ultra-high resolution screen, exquisite smart point design and ultra-narrow sides of only 1.73mm. The company claims that “Whether playing games or watching videos, the clear and delicate picture will always let you instantly immerse yourself.” The phone also has Super eye-protection screen mode which protects user eyes all the time. In the eye protection mode, you can also filter a lot of blue light on the screen to protect your eyesight.

The Oppo A52 has an L-shaped quad-camera setup on the back panel for photography experience. There is a punch-hole on the front side for the front-facing camera. The body adopts a 3D four-curved surface design, and the special curvature optimization makes the mobile phone more rounded and more comfortable, giving you a comfortable grip in the palm of your hand. The OPPO A52 sports a 6.5-inch punch-hole display with Full-HD+ (1,080 x 2,400 pixels) resolution and 90.5 percent screen-to-body ratio. The handset has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security.

Front and rear cameras

For photography, the phone ships with quad rear cameras with 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, LED flash, f/1.8 aperture; 8MP 119-degree ultra-wide-angle lens; 2MP depth sensor; and finally, a 2MP macro sensor with 1.75μm pixel size, f/2.4 aperture. The front camera of the phone gets an 8MP shooter with an f/2.0 aperture lens. Support up to 4K high-quality shooting. There is also a super clear anti-shake blessing. With one shot, the video picture is clear and stable.

The new video wide-angle and 120-frame slow-motion video functions make it easy to record the diverse fun in life. The F1.8 large aperture lens captures more light and is matched with Ultra Clear Night Scene 2.0 to further enhance the dynamic range of the photo. The Oppo A52 is equipped with AI intelligent beauty which is independently developed by OPPO. It can match different skin tones in different scenes and lighting conditions, and easily obtain your personalized beauty solution. Oppo states that “A more delicate microdermabrasion effect, a smoother and more contoured beauty, and a natural look with ease.”

Processor, software, and battery

Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 Chipset. The entire system comes standard with 8GB of high-spec LPDDR4x running memory, even if multiple applications and games are running at the same time, it will not freeze. The whole system comes standard with 128GB storage, UFS2.1 high-speed flash memory and continuous reading performance increased by 61%. The 8-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon platform, coupled with the OPPO Hyper Boost performance engine, makes applications and game programs respond more quickly and the system runs more smoothly. There is a 5,000 mAh large battery which supports up to 18W for quick charging.

A 5000mAh large battery, even with high-intensity use, can guarantee a safe battery life for a whole day. The Oppo A52 is equipped with an ultra-linear dual-speaker system and Dirac 2.0 sound adjustment function. The sound quality is also guaranteed when playing at a large volume. It can also automatically identify music, videos, and games. Software-wise, the OPPO A52 boots the latest ColorOS 7 atop Android 10 out of the box. The phone has many features such as One-click flashback (multi-tasking new experience), Breeno voice assistant, and dark mode. The dark color mode and smart backlight not only reduce the screen power consumption but also alleviate eye fatigue and bring you a new visual experience.
