Last Update 2020-02-27

Introduction

At first glance, Sharp has made, well, a sharp smartphone for its first entry into the flagship category. The Sharp Aquos R5G has many exciting features like Snapdragon 865 Chipset, quad-camera setup, and 5G connectivity. Sharp has initially announced this device in Japan, and it is expected to go on sale in the Japanese markets later this spring. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t revealed any details about an international roll-out of the Sharp Aquos R5G. There are three color options, such as Blue, White, and Black, and the brand’s first 5G flagship phone costs $700 for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Design and display

The design of the phone isn’t well because it supports a fingerprint sensor at the bottom chin like old smartphones. The front panel of the phone also houses a U-shaped notch for the selfie sensor. There is a vertically shaped array on the rear panel of the phone for four camera sensors. It has a Google Assistant button and volume rockers on the right bezel. Talking about the display, the display itself is an IPS panel and comes with a trendy 120Hz refresh rate and is flanked by stereo speakers. It features a 6.5 inch IGZO IPS LCD that offers QHD+ resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels.

The company claims the Aquos R5G has High definition, high brightness display that also supports Dolby Vision. U-NEXT HDR content can also be fully enjoyed on the smartphone. Image quality control technology that automatically adjusts the optimal brightness for each video scene is also available in this handset. Adobe RGB, which has the same wide color gamut as professional monitors, enables more detailed color expression. Adobe Photoshop Express is pre-installed. Hence, various editing and processing can be done easily.

Front and rear cameras

The Sharp AQUOS R5G has four rear cameras. The first is a 12.2MP f/2.7 telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, and a 48MP f/2.9 super wide-angle camera follows it. Next comes the 12MP f/1.7 primary camera, and at the bottom is a ToF camera. The front-facing camera is a 16.4MP f/2.0 camera with AQUOS beauty mode. The handset can record 8K videos. The telephoto camera and primary camera have optical image stabilization, and there is also electronic image stabilization. There are a number of unique features such as AI live story, AI live shutter, and focus playback. A variety of cameras, including an ultra-wide-angle camera that can shoot video even at 8K and a telephoto camera with 2x optical power, can take beautiful pictures of any kind of photo. Shoot the whole, cut out the target subject, and play it back with zoom. Furthermore, it also records 4k videos as well as Full HD videos at 30fps. You can also record Full HD videos at 30fp by using the front-facing camera.

Processor, Software, and Battery

The Sharp Aquos R5G draws power from Qualcomm’s latest high-end Snapdragon 865 Chipset constructed on a 7nm+ Octa-core processor (1x2.84 GHz Kryo 585 & 3x2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 585). It has 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage. There is an Adreno 650 GPU, which provides a better gaming experience. With 5G network capability, you can connect to many devices, play videos, and increase the amount of information. The smartphone has a high-performance CPU and modem for more versatile expressions. Games and images are a new way to enjoy. The software front is covered by the Android 10 operating system. The battery capacity of the phone is 3,730 mAh that supports fast charging. Moreover, along with Android 10 OS, the Sharp Aquos R5G has many new features such as Dark mode, ultra-game mode, super screen recorder, and battery saver. There are also some basic apps – file manager, video player, audio player, Google Chrome, gallery, voice recorder, compass, and FM radio.
