Battery
Description
Do you know what is the most important thing or feature of a smart phone that attracts most of the customers? If you are thinking higher speed of processor, more of the Ram, huge internal memory, gigantic HD screen or more than 16 MP of camera, you are probably right because most of the smart phones are sold based on these features but there is something else that a distinguished class of customers always focus on; the battery power of the smart phone.
There are a different class of consumers of smart phone that don’t buy the handset just because it has bigger screen or more powerful processor but they base their purchase on the battery power the smart phone provides. You don’t want to own a smart phone with all the necessary features but with lower battery power that makes you charge your smart phone twice a day and you spend hours standing besides the charging socket of your smart phone.
Battery
Types of batteries
Here we are going to discuss batteries of smart phones. And in this list, we will include all kinds of available batteries in smart phones these days.
Lithium polymer battery:
This is the latest and most efficient type of smart phone battery among all the other types. The best thing about this type of battery is that years of charging won’t lesser the age of this battery and even if you are using the battery for years and charged it thousands of times, there won’t be any decrease in the capacity of the battery. These batteries don’t need any casing so as a result, they are slimmer, thinner and light weight as compared to other types of batteries.
Lithium Ion battery
This is the battery that is mostly being used these days by most of the smart phone manufacturers. The deal with this type of battery is that they deliver high quality of results in the smart phone but costs more than the range of an average person. That’s why only high class smart phones or expensive models are equipped with lithium ion batteries. There is a major setback of this type of battery that if you leave the battery on charging for around 24 hours continuously, you will damage the battery permanently.
Nickel Cadmium battery:
This is the older and one of the cheapest types of cell phone battery that most people are usually familiar with these days. Although most of the manufacturers have stopped using this type of battery due to number of problems but still some of the low budget cell phones are also equipped with this battery. The problem with this battery is that with every recharge, you actually decrease the age of the battery and if you recharge the battery without completely discharging it, it may damage the capacity of the battery too.
Nickel Metal Hybrid battery:
This is more of a modified form of the nickel cadmium battery but as there isn’t any cadmium used in this battery, it’s more environmental friendly. Another advantage is that even if you charge this battery for years, it won’t affect its capacity or age but as a safe step, it’s recommended that you completely discharge the battery after every 20th charge.
Classes of batteries:
Above we have discussed about the types of cell phone batteries but there is more to it. Along with the types there is another feature which is the class of the battery. There are basically two classes of batteries as below;
Capacity
The batter of a cell phone is actually equipment or a part that saves the power to operate the cell phone and as each battery varies in size and shape, there is a different amount of charge or power that a battery could save and that is usually known as the capacity of the battery. It’s measured in mAh and higher the mAh capacity of the battery, more the power it can save.
When we talk about the battery timing of a cell phone, we actually measure it in different forms besides the mAh capacity of the battery. Here we are going to provide some of the measurement units for the cell phone batteries.
Removable
Removable battery:
It is pretty clear from the title that this is a battery that you can easily remove from your cell phone in case you want to change it after its aged or decreased the capacity. You just need to open the back cover of your cell phone that includes the battery and just take it out. These batteries are very cost effective and you can easily arrange for a replace if you damage your battery. Most of the cell phones are include this type of battery.
Non-removable battery:
Again it is obvious from the name of the battery that it’s not removable and as there is no back lid or cover to the cell phone, you can remove this battery. Some of the cell phones have the feature of opening the entire mobile and then removing the battery where most of the cell phones include the battery that you can’t replace and if you damage the battery, you may have to replace the entire cell phone just to get rid of the damaged battery. This is an expensive deal for most of the cell phone owners so only a few of the models include this type of battery.
StandBy
Battery timing:
When we talk about the battery timing of a cell phone, we actually measure it in different forms besides the mAh capacity of the battery. Here we are going to provide some of the measurement units for the cell phone batteries.
Standby time:
This refers to the duration in which you don’t operate your cell phone and battery power is used only to keep the cell phone running without using any tools, apps or features of the cell phone. It depends on the type and capacity of the battery as the standby time varies with each type of battery but usually it starts from 120 hours and goes up to 800 hours in case of a very huge sized battery.
Talk Time
This is again a feature of the cell phone by which we measure the battery timing of the cell phone. The higher the talk time a cell phone produces, the better the battery it includes. Most of the cell phones have the talk time around 10 hours but recently we have seen some smart phones with gigantic batteries that could provide up to 28 hours of talk time i.e. Samsung Galaxy Note 5 or Galaxy S7.
Music Play
We also measure the battery timing of a cell phone by knowing how many hours of music play back duration it can produce. For example if a cell phone includes 1500 mAh battery, its estimated music play back time could be up to 50 hours or more. The more the hours of music playback time, the better the battery is.
Wireless Charging
This is a very unique and latest feature that is only introduced in a couple of smart phones with very high price tags. Recently Nokia has offered this feature in its Lumia 1020 smart phone where Samsung has also introduced wireless charging in Note 3 and Galaxy S5. It sounds like you don’t need to have any wires for charging your cell phone and you can go anywhere while keeping your phone on charging mode but it’s actually not that simple and reality it less fascinating. Wireless charging enables you to put your cell phone on wireless charging dock and it will automatically starts charging and as soon you pick it up, it will stop charging. This means that if you want to operate your cell phone during charging, you need to stand or sit besides the wireless charging dock.
