Introduction
LG's V-series smartphones have landed squarely in the middle of our best phone rankings - not wicked devices, just housed in simple black rectangles with a few intriguing but ultimately non-essential new perks. The LG V60 ThinQ 5G seeks to break with that tradition in some ways with a more modern look, a larger size, and the best camera for higher photo quality. And, yes, its own handful of intriguing features. It supports the 5G network, houses a camera sensor with 64 megapixels for 8K recording, and comes bundled (depending on where you buy it) with the Dual Screen attachment—a case that adds a second screen to the phone, exactly like last year's G8X ThinQ. According to the company, the LG V60 will be available in blue and white colors and is coming later this spring.
Design and display
The LG V60 ThinQ 5G seems a bit like an inflated version of its predecessor: with a 6.8-inch screen, it's strictly larger and has some design quirks to keep it from being unmanageable to hold. On the back, it has three-camera sensors and flash in a thin camera bar. The front-facing camera has been reduced to a single lens in a teardrop notch, much as it is in the LG G8X. The phone's volume buttons are on the left side of the phone, and below them, a lock button. The bottom edge reveals the V60's central USB-C port, a right-mounted speaker grille, and a 3.5mm headphone jack on the left. There is no fingerprint sensor on the rear side, which means it offers an under-display fingerprint technology.
The LG V60's FHD+ (2460x1080) OLED display has unfortunately receded in resolution from the QHD+ (3120x1440) display on its predecessor. But it's larger at 6.8 inches (compared to 6.4 inches in the LG V50) and narrower with a 20.5:9 ratio, making it a bit easier to handle despite its size. At 395 PPI density, the LG V60 ThinQ 5G offers 83.6 percent screen-to-body ratio, and the screen of the phone is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. There are also some other exciting features, such as DCI-P3 100%, HDR10+, and Always-on display. As for the dual-screen technology, the Dual Screen case designed for the LG V60 ThinQ smartphone features a 6.8-inch OLED panel that supports full HD+ resolution. The case features a 360 Freestop Hinge that makes it possible to use the phone in different ways such as notebook, stand, and tent modes. The case also has a 2.1-inch notification panel that offers users with the always-on feature.
Front and rear cameras
The phone has a triple camera setup on the back panel for photography. The 64MP f/1.98 primary lens follows this year's trend of higher- and higher-megapixel lenses, though it also packs a 'pixel-binning' tech to combine four pixels into one. Other two sensors are – 13MP ultra-wide sensor with f/1.9 aperture and a 0.3MP TOF 3D depth sensor with f/1.4 aperture. The 13MP f/1.9 ultrawide worked fine in our initial tests. While the LG V60's camera setup is lacking compared to flagship titans like the Samsung Galaxy S20, the phone surges ahead in one area: its 1.6-micron sensor for the primary lens in 64MP mode is much higher than the 0.8-micron size sensor in the primary camera of Samsung's new smartphone. On the front panel, there is a 10MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture for selfie experience. The LG V60's other big advantage: it can record in 8K video at 24 frames per second. It also has four microphones positioned around the phone to capture what LG calls 'Voice Bokeh' - ostensibly some sort of depth awareness relative to sound sources, something LG's introduced to appeal to content creators.
Processor, software, and battery
The LG V60 ThinQ has the latest chipset, the Snapdragon 865, paired with 8GB of RAM. Customers can get either 128GB or 256GB of storage, though they can always boost that up to 2TB via microSD card. The Snapdragon 865 mobile platform that tags along the X55 5G modem allows the LG V60 ThinQ to connect to sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G networks. In addition, the SoC is constructed on the 7nm+ Octa-core processor (1x2.84 GHz Kryo 585 & 3x2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 585). There is an Adreno 650 GPU. The Android 10 OS, coupled with the latest LG UX 9.0, runs on the LG V60 ThinQ. The 5,000mAh battery of the V60 ThinQ supports wireless charging and Quick Charge 4+ fast charging technology.
