The Oppo’s sub-brand Realme launched Realme 5s on November 20 with a vertically shaped quad-camera setup and massive battery capacity.
Realme s5 is a mixture of Realme 5 and 5 pros. It has 48MP primary camera like pro version and all other specs similar to Realme 5.
Realme 5s has Snapdragon 665 SoC, while the predecessor Realme 5 Pro has SDM 712 Chipset. Oppo Realme 5s has Crystal Purple, Crystal Blue, Crystal Red color options, and it has a $140 price tag for the base model while the 4GB RAM and 128GB ROM version costs $155.
Design and Body material
The phone’s frame and back are built with plastic, and the Corning Gorilla Glass 3+ has protected the front panel. In terms of dimension, it measures 164.4 x 75.6 x 9.3 mm (6.47 x 2.98 x 0.37 in), and its weight is 198 grams (heavier than 5 Pro’s 184 grams). On the rear shell, it offers a vertically shaped quad-camera setup for better photography experience. The LED flash is placed at the right side of the camera setup, and the phone has a rear-mounted fingerprint reader for authentication. The bottom of the phone has loudspeaker grilles, USB-C port, and 3.5mm audio jack. The Realme 5s has a water-drop notch on the front panel for the selfie camera, and the earpiece grille is just above the notch.
Display
The Realme 5s has 6.5 inches IPS LCD that can support up to HD+ resolution with 720 x 1600 pixels at a 20:9 aspect ratio. Along with 269 PPI density, the phone offers an 82.7 percent screen-to-body ratio, and the front panel of the phone is coated with Corning Gorilla 3+ for to safe from scratches. It provides as high as up to 512 nits maximum brightness, and it gives a better viewing experience with the screen’s contrast ratio of 1875:1. The phone offers a Color Temperature Adjustment option, so you can set default, Cooler (middle position), and warmer at the extremes
Battery
The phone has packed a 5,000 mAh massive battery, including 10W fast charging option, and the device has 110h excellent endurance rating, and you can watch videos up to 17h. The Realme 5s can do about 33h of 3G Talk Time, and we can web browsing about 20h as well.
Software
The phone runs on the top of Android 9 Pie overlaid with Oppo’s layer ColorOS 6, and it offers different toggles with pretty design. For biometric options, the phone has a Face Unlock feature and a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel. Switches down from the top, it offers many icons like - Wi-Fi, Mobile data, Mute icon, Bluetooth, Flashlight, Calculator, Boost, Night Shield, Realme share, Airplane Mode, Location Services, Auto-rotate, Quiet theme, Power saver and Google Assistant. In the “Fingerprint, Face & Passcode” option, we can add fingerprint and Face and also enable a Lock-screen password. The phone has a side-way bar, and we can resize the windows and swap the two apps. Unfortunately, there is no option for Dark Mode. Of course, it has a standard set of tools. The phone has a Phone Manager for handling memory cleaner functions, app permission and encryption, Virus scanning, and other things for optimizing the device. Along with Game Space mode, you can handpick which notifications to pass through when you are playing games, and you don’t want to be interrupted. The Realme 5s has essential media apps like – Gallery, Music Player, File Manager, FM radio, Compass, and Proximity.
Performance
The Oppo Realme 5s has powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 Chipset and paired with up to 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB onboard storage option. The Snapdragon 665 Chipset is constructed on an 11nm Octa-core processor, which packs a 4x2.0 GHz Kryo 260 Gold and 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Silver. The phone has offered Adreno 610 GPU, as well. The Realme 5s has a 13MP sensor for taking selfies and live video recording. The 13MP selfie sensor is 26mm wider, and it has f/2.0 aperture and 1.12µm pixels. Along with f/2.0 aperture, the selfie camera provides pretty images at Daylight condition. Unfortunately, the phone can’t offer a better selfie experience in the low-light theme. It can record FHD videos at 30fps, and the phone also offers HDR. Panorama features for better selfie experience, and it can capture beautiful pictures with original skin tones in portrait mode.

Verdict
The Realme 5s is the mid-range smartphone and stand between Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro, The 48MP primary camera delivers better results in daylight, but it can’t provide remarkable achievement in low-light conditions. Anyway, the Realme 5s is a fantastic offer with a large display, powerful hardware, and quad-camera setup. The battery life is also excellent as well, and if you want to buy budget-friendly camera phones than Realme 5s is a better choice for you.

Alternatives
Apart from 48MP primary camera of Realme 5s, Vivo U3 is the batter in other specs in this price range. The Vivo U3 has SDM 675 Chipset, 5,000 mAh battery with 18W fast charging, but it has a triple camera setup instead of quad and primary sensor 16MP instead of 48MP. If camera is not your first priority then you can buy Vivo U3.
On the other hand, the Realme 5 also has quad-camera setup, SDM 665 Chipset, and 5,000 mAh battery with 10W quick charging. So, if you want to spend less, you can purchase Realme 5 with a 16MP primary camera because of not much difference between Realme’s 16MP and 48MP lenses.
