Samsung Galaxy Z Flip durability test Ultra-thin Glass display easily damaged

After the durability test of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, it seems 'it is no secret that the foldable phones of Samsung aren't the most sturdy of devices.' Samsung Galaxy Z Flip was launched last week at its Unpacked 2020 event in San Francisco. It is the company's second commercial foldable phone after the previous Galaxy Fold. The Galaxy Z Flip's screen is made from "Ultra-Thin Glass," which, according to the company, is much more resistant to scratches compared to the plastic screens on the predecessor Galaxy Fold and the Motorola Razr 2019. But, the JerryRigEverything durability test does not seem to prove Samsung's claims. During the YouTuber's regular scratch tests, the Galaxy Z Flip's screen has seen to scratch just as easily as the plastic ones.

In the video, Zack Nelson from JerryRigEverything puts the display glass under a series of scratch tests with an increased hardness to see when the screen starts showing signs of damage. Unfortunately, the screen of Galaxy Z Flip doesn't face well. Most modern foldable smartphones start showing scratches once the test reaches level 6, with deeper grooves at level 7. The Z Flip started showing damage at level 2, with more significant damage appearing at level 3—the same result as the Fold, Razr, and other phones with plastic screens. So, it seems that the layer isn't enough to protect the glass in Nelson's tests, though. Nelson suggests that Samsung might have used a glass-polymer hybrid in the Z Flip, but the company claims it uses Ultra-Thin Glass "to deliver a sleek, premium look and offer an immersive viewing experience.
