Xiaomi Redmi 5 vs Redmi 5 Plus, what is the difference

The Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are the latest and budget friendly Xiaomi smartphones. We have already given the Redmi 5 review and now we are going to compare it with Redmi 5 Plus. Both handsets have IPS LCD panel, MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 OS, 12MP rear camera and 5MP front shooter, fingerprint sensor, fast charging support, hybrid dual Nano-SIM slot, CDMA, 3G and 4G LTE network connectivity. The major differences between Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are display, dimension, chipset, RAM, ROM and battery.

 

 

Display and Dimension

 

Xiaomi Redmi 5 has 151.8 x 72.8 x 7.7 mm dimensions and 157 grams weight while the Redmi 5 Plus measures 158.5 x 75.5 x 8.1 mm dimensions and weighs 180 grams. Both handsets are made of aluminum body but the Redmi 5 Plus is bigger and thicker than its sibling. Xiaomi Redmi 5 packs 5.7 inches HD+ display whereas the Redmi 5 Plus having 5.9 inches FHD+ display which shows bigger and brighter scenes. The 18:9 aspect ratio is same.

 

Chipset and Processor

 

The biggest change is chipset, as you know that the performance of a device depends on its chip. Xiaomi Redmi 5 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 coupled with 1.8GHz octa core processor while the Redmi 5 Plus is powered by Snapdragon 625 coupled with 2.0GHz octa core processor which runs smoothly. There is a major difference between the performances of both handsets. The Redmi 5 Plus is better for faster multi-tasking. The Redmi 5 takes some more time to play games whereas the Redmi 5 Plus runs heavy games fast and smoothly. The graphics results are same due to Adreno 506 GPU in both.

According to the Antutu 6 benchmark, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus get 55472 and 61122 scores respectively for their overall performance.

 

RAM and ROM

 

Xiaomi Redmi 5 comes in 2GB and 3GB RAM variants coupled with 16GB and 32GB storage respectively. On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus arrives in 3GB and 4GB RAM variants having 32GB and 64GB storage respectively. The 4GB RAM option of Redmi 5 Plus is best for gaming and mutli-tasking.

Battery

 

Xiaomi Redmi 5 is backed by a 3300mAh battery and the Redmi 5 Plus is juiced with a 4000mAh battery. The battery performance is almost similar. The 3300mAh battery supports 5.7 inches HD+ display and Snapdragon 450 SoC whereas the 4000mAh battery gives power to 5.9 inches FHD+ display and Snapdragon 625 SoC therefore battery life of both smartphones is almost same.

 

Price

 

Xiaomi Redmi 5 price is low as well as its some specs are low. The Redmi 5 is priced at $120 while the Redmi 5 Plus is available for $150.

 

Conclusion:

 

If you want to get bigger display and faster CPU for smoother mutli-tasking then you can go for Redmi 5 Plus but you will also need to spend some more otherwise the Redmi 5 is enough for your common usage.
