Royole FlexPai 2 has been teased - the second-generation flexible handset from the Chinese firm - claiming "significant improvements in every possible way." FlexPai 2 has revealed as part of a larger announcement that focused on Royole's new flexible display technology, with the aforementioned handset set to be the first device to use it. Royole calls its new screen tech '3rd Generation Cicada Wing' and claims the technology "offers a 50% increase of brightness and delivers enhanced performance, including high contrast, wide color gamut and fast response time." Talking about the display, the FlexPai 2 has a 7.8-inch display that can be folded into half to be used as a phone.

What’s more interesting is that during the announcement, FlexPai also announced its partnership with Chinese handset maker ZTE. So, in the near future, expect ZTE to come out with foldable phones that make use of flexible displays made by Royole. Under the hood, the foldable phone is said to run Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip and will be capable of running 5G networks around the world. The phone has a quad-camera setup, details of which aren’t available yet. According to Royole, the new Cicada Wing will have a 1.3x better color gamut and 500x better contrast than a high-end LCD. It also comes along with a custom-designed display driver integrated circuit chip, and the panel can be folded in multiple directions. The company also announced that the foldable phone is coming with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage. There's currently no word on the FlexPai 2 price, but we do know it'll be launched officially sometime during Q2 (April-June) this year.
