Classes of camera:

While talking about the camera in cell phones, they have two primary classes; primary camera and secondary camera. Primary camera is the rear facing camera on the back of the cell phone that is the main camera with the highest result producing picture feature in the cell phone and usually it’s the most frequent used camera. While buying a cell phone, a user only focuses on the quality of the primary rear facing camera. On the other hand, secondary camera is the front facing camera situated on the upper edge of the cell phone above display LCD. This is usually a small sized camera that is only used for video calling but some manufacturers are also developing good quality front cameras for taking good pictures of you from front.

Mega pixel:

This is a unit used in camera and picture related areas and it allows determining the quality of the camera and the pictures that it produces. A camera with 5MP can only produce low quality and very basic pictures where a camera with 20MP or more can produce high quality pictures same as taken from a DSLR digital camera. This is the feature of a cell phone that matters a lot for the users when they want to buy a cell phone and usually they prefer a cell phone with more Megapixels of camera.

Face detection:

This is an additional feature that only included in high class cell phones with higher quality cameras and it’s the feature that allows the camera to detect the face of a person in the frame automatically and focus on it. It means that even when the entire picture is kind of blurry, the face of the person in the picture will be crystal clear.

This is a camera feature that allows the user to focus automatically while taking a photo. Older cell phone cameras required manual focusing on the faces of the people you wanted to take picture of and it used to take some time allowing huge delays in between two shots. Autofocus feature of a camera focuses on the faces of people in the frame automatically.

Camera Sensor size:

At a certain point, it doesn’t matter anymore how much MP of your cell phone camera includes because it’s not the MP that matter but the size of the lens or size of the camera sensor that matter more. This means that a small lens 20MP camera is not going to produce good images than a wide lens camera or 12MP or what we call a DSLR camera. This explains that the bigger the size of your cell phone camera sensor size is; the better images it will produce. Camera pixel size: This is a feature that determines the quality of the camera. A camera with higher pixel ratio and smaller size can produce better quality images.

Dual shot:

This is a photo capture feature that was first used in Samsung Galaxy S4 and it allows the user to use both the primary and secondary cameras on the phone at once. This way the user can capture a picture with primary rear facing camera and front camera simultaneously.

Geo tagging:

This is an additional image or photo feature only added in higher priced cell phones and it allows the users to add the geographical location of the position where a photo was taken at the time it’s captured by the camera. It helps the users to remember the location where he took a particular picture a year ago.

Touch focus:

With touch focus camera, you can touch the face of a person in the camera frame and it tells the camera to focus more on the face you touched as compared to the other people in the picture.

Image stabilization:

A camera with image stabilization can take clearer and sharper images even when the person holding the camera is moving or changing place. This feature helps the users to take good quality stable pictures of moving objects i.e. animals or vehicles. But keep in mind that it requires more time for the camera to take picture with image stabilization feature on in the camera settings.

It stands for High Dynamic Range and it’s a camera feature that is only used in iPhone handsets and some of the other android OS based smart phones. This feature allows the users to take clearer and brighter images with more light to dark ratio. With this feature, camera takes two photos simultaneously; one simple photo and one with HDR feature and allows you to choose whichever pictures suits you the best. Video frame per second: This is a camcorder feature that allows the user to determine the quality of video they capture with their cell phone camera. The camera with higher amount of frames per second produces better looking and brighter and clearer video.

When you use camera on your cell phone, you may need to use in a dark place or during night time and when there is no light, you can’t take a clear picture without any external help. As a way to take clearer and well focused pictures during night times or in dark places, cell phone camera are also equipped with flash lights that allow the users to take good pictures in dark places. There are basically two types of flashes; LED and Xenon. LED flashes are used in low budget cell phones with less than 5MP of camera where the Xenon flashes are more accurate, brighter and long life and it’s only used in high class cell phones with more than 10MP of camera.
