Samsung Electronics Co. (NASDAQ:SSNLF)is pushing back the release date of its Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ yet again. The upcoming flagship of the Korean company will not be coming on April 21st as expected but on April 28th.
Samsung is yet to officially announce the devices, and VentureBeat reported the initial release date. Now, according to sources close to the company, the Galaxy S8 duo’s release timetable is slipping one more week.
There is no reason for the new schedule, although Samsung is probably being cautious with its launch due following the rushed debut of the Galaxy Note 7 last year. The company had to pay millions of dollars to replace the defective batteries of the Note 7 handsets and, ultimately, they chose to put it out of the market.
The rumored specs
Samsung will reveal the next-generation Galaxy smartphones on March 29 for the first time during the Unpacked event in New York City on March 29. A new Gear VR headset will also make a debut in the event.
The company will showcase the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 and the 6.2-inch Galaxy8+. Aside from the screen size, both devices pack QHD+ Super AMOLED display with 18.5.9 aspect ratio, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, and Android Nougat 7.0 right out of the box.
All models will have microSDXC support up to 2TB in size, though the largest available capacity is currently 256GB.
The specs come from non-stop leaks and rumors that have been coming out during the last weeks, and the upcoming flagship is similar to the new LG G6.
Meanwhile, the LG G6 will release in South Korea on mid-March and reach global markets at the beginning of April.
The source of the leaks
Earlier this week a Chinese mobile cover manufacturer leaked the first images of the Samsung Galaxy S8. It seems the rumors and reports turned out to be true: it has the same metal frame as the previous version with the screen display taking over almost all of the front side of the phone.
The design features look much like last 2016’s Galaxy S7 Edge, with a curved display, thin bodies, and almost edgeless screens.
It has small side bezels and a top bezel surrounded with multiple sensors. The front screen features an iris scanner and an 8-megapixel camera, while the back side has the fingerprint reader and the 12-megapixel camera.
The upcoming S8 smartphones will rise as the only bearer of the SnapDragon 835 chipset, although in certain markets the phone is coming out with Samsung’s own Exynos 9 processor.
The S8 will come with a Type-C USB port and a 3000 mAh Li-ion battery (or a 3500 mAh battery for the S8+).
