ZTE today announced the Axon 20 5G, an affordable flagship smartphone. It's also the world’s first phone with an under-display camera that means on this 6.92-inch FHD+ display, you'll find neither notch nor hole punch. Xiaomi and Oppo had been working on debut their own smartphones featuring this technology, but ZTE has beaten them. ZTE also points out another display milestone; it says that the Axon 20 5G "supports 10-bit color depth and 100% coverage of DCI-P3 color gamut, reaching the color standard of professional, digital cinema screens." The phone has four color options - Blue, Black, Orange, and Purple.

ZTE says that this under-display camera technology has been made possible through the interplay between five core technologies: a special display material, a dual-control chip, a unique driver circuit, a special pixel matrix, and a self-developed shooting algorithm. The new display material improves light input to the front camera, while the chip and circuit solve the synchronization problems of color and conventional displays when using an under-display camera. The special pixel matrix optimizes the pixels to improve display consistency, while the algorithm optimizes and improves the clarity of photos.
Other than that, the hardware is pretty much what you'd expect for a 2020 affordable flagship. ZTE Axon 20 features a 6.92-inch full-HD+ (1,080x2,460 pixels) OLED display with a 20.5:9 aspect ratio, 90Hz refresh rate, and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The display supports 10bit color and covers 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut. It is fueled by the octa-core Snapdragon 765G SoC and comes with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage that is expandable via microSD card (up to 2TB).
For photography experience, the ZTE Axon 20 5G has a quad rear camera setup and a single hidden selfie shooter. On the back, the camera setup includes 64-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel secondary sensor, a 2-megapixel tertiary sensor, and a 2-megapixel sensor. On the front, the ZTE Axon 20 5G comes with a 32-megapixel sensor. The phone measures 172.1x77.9x7.9mm and weigh 198 grams. It packs a 4,220mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging.
