Sony officially unveils 1 III, Xperia 5 III, and Xperia 10 III smartphones

In an online event today, Sony unveiled three new Android smartphones - Xperia 1 III, Xperia 5 III, and Xperia 10 III. Both Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III are flagship phones and pack mostly identical hardware but differ in size. On the other hand, the Xperia 10 III is a mid-range smartphone from the company which comes with Snapdragon 690 5G SoC and OLED display.

Sony Xperia 1 III in Jamaica

Starting with the Xperia 1 III, the latest Sony flagship comes with the same boxy design as its predecessor. It has a 6.5-inch 4K OLED panel with a 120Hz screen refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The Xperia 5 III, on the other hand, has a smaller 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both phones are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, paired with 8GB / 12GB RAM and 128GB / 256GB storage. Sony Xperia 1 III has a triple rear camera setup which includes a 12MP (f/1.7 aperture, 24mm equivalent focal length, and large 1.8-micron pixels) primary sensor, a 12MP telephoto shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 0.3MP TOF camera. The Xperia 5 III has the same camera setup but drops the 3D ToF sensor. Both phones have 4,500mAh batteries and support 30W fast charging. Other key highlights of the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III include IP68 dust and water protection, a side-mounted fingerprint reader, and NFC.

During the launch, Sony also refreshed its mid-range lineup with the new Xperia 10 III. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 SoC that is paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. There is also a 12MP triple camera setup at the back panel. You’ll get an 8MP front-facing camera for selfies. Other features of the phone include a 6.0 inches OLED display, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 4500 mAh battery, and Android 11 OS.
