Samsung brought four smartphones at the 2020 Unpacked Event, Galaxy Note 20, Note 20 Ultra, Note20 5G, and Note20 Ultra 5G. As we were expecting, the Note Plus version is no more. Thankfully, there is a better alternate, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The other new products introduced at the occasion are Galaxy Tab S7, Tab S7+, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Smartwatch3 and Galaxy Buds 2020 (aka Bean). Let’s take an early look at Samsung Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.
Before diving into details, we are here letting you see the main differences between Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. The standard has a 6.7-inch FHD+ screen, whereas the Ultra version sports a 6.9-inch QHD+ display. A camera is another big difference. Note 20 gets 12MP primary sensor and the Note 20 Ultra flaunts a 108MP main camera. A standard Note comes in 8GB RAM while the Ultra goes up to 12GB RAM. The Pre-order for Note 20 series starts from August 6, 2020. The Price of Galaxy Note 20 is $1,000 while the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is selling at $1,250. Coming to the 5G version, Samsung Note20 5G and Note20 Ultra 5G are priced at $1,100 and $1,300. The countrywide release will begin by the end of August. However, the shipment will kick off in early September 2020.
The Note series is carrying a beautiful Stylus Pen. There is a 26ms latency for Note 20 Stylus and a 9ms latency Pen for Note 20 Ultra. Both support Bluetooth and integrate accelerometer and gyro sensors. This time, you cannot only draw plots or do some gestures but also select text on the screen with the Samsung Stylus.
Both Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra look elegant. There is a tall screen (achieve 90% of the diagonal front) with a punch-hole selfie lens, a bottom slot for S-Pen, USB-C port, power, and Bixby keys on the right hand, and a vertically-oriented camera hump on the back. As usual, a Note lacks a 3.5 mm audio socket once again. Without a single eye blink, the user can unlock Note 20 with the Under-Display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Reader.
Samsung Note 20 arrives with a Flat Screen and measures 161.6x75.2x8.3 mm dimensions. However, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has an Edge Display and 164.8x77.2x8.1 mm dimensions. Both cell phones have an aluminum body and protected by Gorilla Glass7 (the strongest Corning glass as of now). Note 20 series is sealed tight and comes up with an IP68 rating, ensuring dust and water resistance up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
The vanilla Note 20 is 6.7inches tall, having a Super AMOLED display and 1080x2400 pixels resolution. On the other hand, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra promoted to a 6.9inches Dynamic AMOLED screen and 1440x3200 pixels resolution. Also, Ultra can play games at 120Hz refresh rate but the standard Note20 can’t. Both support 20:9 views, HDR10+, and Always-on feature.
Bears in mind, a 120Hz display in Note 20 Ultra is only allowed for Full HD streams, and reverting to QHD+ causes a switch to 60Hz frequency.
Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra brought a newer version of Samsung interface, OneUI 2.1 running on top of Android 10 OS. The latest One UI 2.1 focused on Camera and brings night-hyperlapse for enhanced low-light shots. Some other new stuff is Quick Share, Single take, PRO video mode, ZOOM Controls, and New Quick-Crop. AR Zone is an all-new feature you should experience for augmented reality plays. As it promised, Note 20 series brings Microsoft XCloud gaming optimization. The other traits of Android 10 are new Dark Themes, new parental control, and edge-to-edge gestures, privacy tools, incognito mode for Google Maps, Smart Reply in all messaging apps, optimized location, Focus mode, and Live Caption.
The amount of lenses is three for both smartphones, but the sensors are different. Note 20 adopts a 12MP f/1.8 wide lens, 64MP f/2.0 telephoto with 30x hybrid zoom, and a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens with a 105-degree field of view. The Samsung Note 20 Ultra comes with the world’s high-res 108MP f/1.8 sensor. The secondary optics are 12MP f/3.0 periscope camera with 50x Space Zoom and 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide with 120-degree FoV.
There is a Super Steady Video mode, Electronic Image Stabilization, OIS, and 8K video recording option. Also, users can make 4k movies at 6fps and HD Super Slow-mo at 960fps. Note 20 and Ultra share a Single Take camera feature. It lets the user take a snap by using all back cams at once.
Coming to the front camera, Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra have a 10MP f/2.2 selfie shooter with Dual Pixel PDAF. You can enjoy auto-HDR, dual video calls, and 4k selfie shooting.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are coming in two chip models. The global version is getting Exynos 990 (7nm+) processor that received 928 for single-core and 2721 for multi-core performance in the Geek-bench v5 test. On the other side, Note 10 series had powered by Exynos 9825 (7nm) SoC and obtained 736 single and 2661 multi-core scores in the same Geekbench v5.
For the USA only, Galaxy Note 20 duo will arrive in Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset (built on 7nm+ node).
GPU is Mali-G77 for all the world but Adreno 650 for Americans. Both are efficient for graphics production, yet the Adreno is a little better.
For gaming lovers, there is 8GB RAM in Note 20 and Ultra 4G but the Note20 Ultra 5G comes with up to 12GB RAM. Storage is 256GB UFS 3.1 for both handsets. No other memory variant but Ultra is coming in also 512GB storage option. The standard lacks a microSD card slot, whereas Ultra is getting it.
We are happier to see a 4,300mAh powerhouse in the Galaxy Note20 while a 4,500mAh power cell for Note 20 Ultra. Both are Li-Ion batteries and are compatible with 45W Fast Weird Charge. It is claimed to fill up 50% of life in half an hour. You can experience a 15W Wireless Charger with a Samsung pad in accessory.
Connectivity includes 5G network, Sub-6 WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, and newer version of USB 3.2 Type C (reversible connector). With a 5G cellular connection, one can get up to 2GBps download speed and up to 1GBps upload speed.
Note 20 is available in three beautiful colors Mystic Green, Mystic Bronze, and Mystic Gray. Buyers can choose Note 20 Ultra in Mystic Bronze, Mystic Black, and Mystic White.
