Body and Design

Look wise, Oppo A71 (2018) is elegant and premium. It is beautifully designed with an aluminum frame. The corners are curved and the overall body is symmetrical. It is a one-handed smartphone which has 137 grams of lightweight. The bezels are 7.6 mm thick. The gadget measures 5.2 inches screen diagonally. All is fine except the 16:9 aspect ratio display. As we know the latest trend is of 18:9 display but Oppo is still using the previous 16:9 ratio based screen.

There is a selfie lens, notification LED and an earpiece above the screen. A 3.5 mm jack is available on top while the speaker and micro USB port are equipped on the bottom. Power Key is present on the right side whereas the Volume controllers are embedded on the left side. The curved rounded corners of sides help you to strengthen your grip on the smartphone. At the back, there is a primary camera lens and an LED flashlight. The fingerprint scanner is not available in new generation Oppo A71 (2018) which is really frustrating for biometric security fans.

Display and Software

Oppo A71 (2018) sports a 5.2-inch display which is among average size screens of modern smartphones. The IPS LCD panel is good from all viewing angles but its brightness performance is not quite acceptable. The reason is low 720 x 1280 pixels (HD) resolution which is sufficient for the indoors performance and you can watch or read on screen easily at your home or office but it does not provide enough details under the direct daylight. Even the maximum brightness level is not adequate to see pictures outside.

The latest version of Oppo mobile interface, The ColorOS 3.2, is installed there on Android 7.1 (Nougat) which is previous Android OS but acceptable. ColorOS 3.2 is graceful and looks like Apple iOS. The setting, configuration and other mostly features are matched with iOS so you've got an alternative way to enjoy the premium operating system. The Software Interface supports more gestures. You'll get quick toggles by swiping up from the bottom as you can check status bar by swiping down from the top. There are some pre-installed Apps, too.

Performance and Memory

Oppo A71 (2018) is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 450 chipset which is not much power but enough influential to manage steady workflow of processor and RAM. The device has eight cores of the processor which runs at the 1.8GHz frequency to accomplish your two or more tasks. The phone gets slightly warm after hours of playing but not enough to be uncomfortable. The gaming performance is smooth but you cannot install or experience more apps because of only 2GB RAM. It is aggressive because Oppo A71 had 3GB RAM which is downgraded for the 2018 version. In terms of memory, Oppo A71 (2018) has 16GB Storage in which 7GB occupied with Operating System files so actually, you have 9GB Memory for data saving. However, you can expand memory up to 256GB, thanks to its microSD card slot.

Camera and AI Beauty Recognition

We feel pleasure when we come toward the optics of Oppo A71 (2018), and surely it is a good camera phone. There is a 13MP camera on the rear which is capable of shooting 1080 pixels videos at 30fps. An LED flash is accompanied to capture bright photos. Daylight photography is very nice while the low light performance is merely okay. The camera lens has f/2.2 aperture and certainly, it captures perfect blurred images at portrait mode. You can also enjoy HDR and Panorama features.

Coming to the selfies, Oppo A71 (2018) comes with a 5MP front camera which has an f/2.4 aperture. Oppo has done a good thing here which is AI Beauty Recognition and now you have no need to worry about your selfies because the AI Beauty is an intelligent feature which suggests and adds matching and perfect beauty effects on your face in your selfies. Not only that, but you can also take the advantages of the Bokeh effect.

Battery and Connectivity

Oppo A71 (2018) houses a 3000mAh battery like other usual smartphones. It can run for a full single day with moderate usage. The device gives up to 10 hours talk time on 3G. Web-browsing, Music Play and Video playback time are also satisfactory. The device takes 1 hour and 50 minutes to recharge battery power.

The smartphone supports 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE bands. It delivers the fastest internet on 4G and you can get live streams without any hitch. Like other ordinary smartphones, Oppo A71 (2018) offers 150Mbps download and 50Mbps upload speed. For the cellular connectivity, Dual SIM slots are there and microSD slot is separate therefore you can operate two cellular networks simultaneously. Besides this, it is supported with Wifi, Bluetooth and micro USB v2.0 that's why you can share your media files easily with others. Oppo A71 (2018) price is $180.

Verdict

Oppo A71 (2018) is a decent camera phone, and having mid-range features so if you can manage low display brightness and missing fingerprint then you can buy this handset for $180 to experience new AI Beauty Recognition.
