Infinix Hot S3 vs Xiaomi Redmi Y1, which one is better for you

Infinix Hot S3 and Xiaomi Redmi Y1 are fantastic budget-friendly smartphones. Both are available at the same price but their specs and features are different. Recently, we have given Infinix Hot S3 full review and now we are going to compare it with Xiaomi's Redmi Y1 in order to find which one you should buy.

Display and Software

Infinix Hot S3 sports 5.65 inches Full View display, IPS LCD panel, and 720 x 1440 pixels resolution. On the other side, Xiaomi Redmi Y1 comes with same IPS LCD panel but slightly smaller 5.5 inches display, 16:9 aspect ratio screen (not latest), and low 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. So, we can say that Infinix Hot S3 is better for reading and watching.

In terms of software, Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is running on previous Android OS v7.1.2 (Nougat) which is skinned with Xiaomi's traditional interface, MIUI 9. Its software is faster, smoother and looks beautiful. However, Infinix Hot S3 runs the latest Android OS v8.0 (Oreo) which supports several additional features as compared to Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The Hot S3 OS is polished with an XOS 3.0 overlay which represents Infinix. The MIUI of Redmi Y1 is better than XOS interface of Infinix but the Infinix Hot S3 is still first in software comparison due to main Android 8.0 (Oreo) OS.

Snapdragon 430 vs Snapdragon 435

Performance wise, Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is better because of slightly upgraded Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 chipset. It is aided by 3GB RAM and 1.4GHz octa-core processor. On the other hand, Infinix Hot S3 is powered by the same 3GB RAM and 1.4GHz octa-core processor but there is downgraded Snapdragon 430 chipset. The SD435 SoC is 2X faster than SD430, therefore, Redmi Y1 is better for multi-tasking and gaming. In the case of graphics, both smartphones are equal due to similar Adreno 505 GPU.

20MP vs 16MP

Infinix Hot S3 and Xiaomi Redmi Y1 both are selfie-centric smartphones. The Hot S3 has a 20MP front camera while the Redmi Y1 has a 16MP front camera. Both lenses have the same f/2.0 aperture. Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is good but the Hot S3 is better for eye-catching selfies because Hot S3 gives a more beautiful and natural look. Xiaomi Redmi Y1 provides great Bokeh effect while the Hot S3 doesn’t but the Beauty mode of Infinix Hot S3 fulfills your needs.

In the case of photography, both smartphones show the same camera performance. Infinix Hot S3 and Xiaomi Redmi Y1 have a 13MP rear camera of similar aperture. Even the video calling experience is the same but both devices have different Camera interface of a few dissimilar features.

Infinix Hot S3 is energized with 4000mAh battery whereas the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 is juiced with 3080mAh battery. Both batteries are different but the performance wises both runs for almost equal time. If 3080mAh battery supports 5.5" HD display and Android Nougat then 4000mAh battery supports 5.65" HD+ display and Android Oreo so both handsets give almost equal battery life. Both devices have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and the same connectivity options.

Infinix Hot S3 and Xiaomi Redmi Y1, both are available at same prices. Both smartphones arrive in 32GB and 64GB storage variants having 3GB and 4GB RAM respectively. The 32GB version is priced at $140 while the 64GB version is priced at $170.

Verdict

After analyzing the overall features and performance we prefer Infinix Hot S3 over Redmi Y1. Though the Redmi Y1 gives better gaming performance Infinix Hot S3 offers many additional advantages like 18:9 display, 20MP selfie camera, Beauty mode, 4000mAh battery, and Android Oreo at the same price tag.
