Huawei has officially unveiled its second-generation Mate Xs foldable and MatePad Pro 5G tablet at a closed-door launch event in Barcelona. Unfortunately, both devices lack Google Play services due to the US ban. According to the CEO, the Mate Xs will arrive in global markets next month while the MatePad Pro will be available to purchase from April 2020.
Huawei Mate Xs
The Huawei Mate Xs comes with a Kirin 990 5G chipset, 8GB of RAM, 512GB of internal storage, and a 4,500mAh split battery. When unfolded, it retains the same 8-inch display as seen last year, but with some improvements made to the display structure that is said to be 80% stronger than the previous display.
When folded, you get a 6.6-inch, almost bezel-free front display, and 6.38-inch rear display. Huawei has also enhanced the Falcon Wing back-to-back folding design, which feels smoother and more stable than on the previous model. The Huawei Mate Xs has a 40MP f/1.8 primary shooter, an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto lens with OIS, and 16MP f/2.2 ultrawide snapper. The upgraded foldable phone has a 4,500 mAh battery that supports up to 55W for fast charging.
MatePad Pro 5G
The Chinese tech giant also unveiled the MatePad Pro 5G, which is one of the world’s first 5G-connected tablets. The device isn’t exactly a new product as the company had launched the 4G version in China back in November. The 10.8-inch Android-powered tablet lacks access to the Google Play Store. It also arrives with the Kirin 990 5G chipset, either 6 or 8GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and comes with a massive 7,250mAh battery — which can be charged wirelessly.
Huawei offers a number of optional accessories for the Huawei MatePad Pro 5G, including an M-Pencil stylus and a detachable keyboard stand cover. In terms of cameras, we see a front-facing 8MP unit integrated into the screen via a hole-punch design, while the rear camera is a 13MP unit integrated into a more classical design alongside a microphone and flash.
