Introduction
Today, Sony held an online launch event to announce the Sony Xperia 1 II (pronounced as Xperia One Mark Two) and Xperia 10 II (read as Xperia Ten Mark Two) smartphones. These phones were originally planned to unveil at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2020, which has been canceled due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak. The Sony Xperia 10 II is a midrange fueled by the Snapdragon 665 mobile platform. On the other side, the Xperia 1 II is the company's first 5G-ready flagship phone equipped with Snapdragon 865 SoC and 4K OLED screen.
The phone maker Sony also confirmed that it is working on an advanced smartphone called Xperia Pro. The company has revealed it is a professional solution that can function as a broadcasting device through sub-6GHz as well as mmWave 5G networks at 5Gbps or faster speeds. The Xperia Pro will come seamless integration with Sony Alpha cameras. The Xperia 10 II and Xperia 1 II are scheduled to hit the markets in the second quarter of 2020. In the U.S, the Xperia 1 II will be arriving as a 4G device, but Europe will be receiving its 5G version.
Design and display
Design-wise, both smartphones are looking very beautiful. There are no notches or cutouts on the front panels for the selfie sensor. On the rear panel, Xperia 1 II and Xperia 10 II have a triple camera setup for photography experience. Both devices offer a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for authentication. In terms of dimension, the Xperia 1 II measures 165.1 x 71.1 x 7.6 mm, while the Xperia 10 II measures 157 x 69 x 8.2 mm. Both handsets are also water and dust resistant like other recent Sony flagships. The Sony Xperia 1 II features a 21:9 aspect ratio display, which means the design may be a touch longer than your current handset. It's designed to look better when playing widescreen content on your phone, but it also makes the phone's screen look elongated compared to other handsets. It comes with a 6.5-inch display that has a 4K (1644 x 3840) resolution. It's an HDR OLED panel, and it seems on paper to be a very similar display as to what is included on the Sony Xperia 1. There are front-facing stereo speakers, and a USB-C connector on the bottom of the device, while the top edge features a 3.5mm headphone jack. The design is glass on the front and back - both of which are protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 6 technology - and it will come in either black or purple.
On the other hand, the mid-range Xperia 10 II has an OLED screen of 6 inches. The display panel offers 21:9 CinemaWide high aspect ratio and carries support for full HD+ resolution. Along with 77.6 percent screen-to-body ratio, it supports Full HD+ resolution (1080 x 2520 pixels) at 457 PPI density. There are speaker grille and USB-C port on the bottom of the phone.
Front and Rear cameras
On the back panel, the Xperia 1 II has a triple camera setup with ZEISS branding. It comprises of a 12-megapixel 1/1.7" Exmor primary lens with Dual PD AF and OIS, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture and dual PD AF and a 12-megapixel telephoto shooter with OIS, 3x zoom, f/2.4 aperture and PD AF. Moreover, there is a 3D iToF sensor for faster focus. The Sony Xperia 1 II delivers photo shooting features available on the Alpha lineup of cameras from Sony. The Xperia 1 II comes with Eye AF (eye-tracking autofocus) that now works with animals. It supports 20fps shooting in burst mode. The phone possesses the ability to gauge AF/AE at up 60 times per second. There are Photo Pro and Cinema Pro apps that offer manual control while taking photos and shooting professional videos. The Xperia 1 II has a front-facing camera of 8-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture.
On the other hand, the Xperia 10 II has a vertically shaped triple camera setup on the rear panel. In the triple camera setup, it has a 12-megapixel primary shooter with PDAF, an ultrawide lens of 8-megapixel with 16mm focal length, and an 8-megapixel telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom. It also offers an 8MP sensor on the front panel for selfie experience. As for the video recording, the Xperia 1 II can record 4k videos at 24/25/30/60fps and Full HD videos at 30/60/120fps. While the mid-ranger, the Sony Xperia 10 II records 4k videos and Full HD videos at 30fps.
Battery, software, and processor
Under the hood, the flagship Sony Xperia 1 II is fueled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Chipset integrated with an X55 5G modem for the dual network (NSA and SA) 5G support. It is constructed on a 7nm Octa-core processor (Octa-core (1x2.84 GHz Kryo 585 & 3x2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 585) and the phone offers Adreno 650 GPU. On the other hand, the Xperia 10 II is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC constructed on an 11nm Octa-core processor (4x2.0 GHz Kryo 260 Gold & 4x1.8 GHz Kryo 260 Silver), and there is an Adreno 610 GPU. Both smartphones run the Android 10 operating system.
As for the battery capacity, the flagship phone packs 4,000 mAh battery that supports wireless charging. While the mid-range device houses a 3,600 mAh battery that can support up to 18W for fast charging and also comes with Xperia Adaptive Charging technology that assists in improving the life of the cell by adjusting the power levels that goes into it.
