Qualcomm officially launches Snapdragon 678 Chipset

After unveiling the new Snapdragon 888 flagship processor earlier this month, Qualcomm has now launched its new chip – Snapdragon 678 for mid-range devices. The Snapdragon 678 is the successor to Snapdragon 675 SoC that was announced back in October 2018 and it offers performance upgrades, better photo and video quality, and an immersive entertainment experience over its predecessor.

The Snapdragon 678 brings a boost to the CPU, a Kryo 460 that is now clocked at 2.2GHz, as well as performance enhancements to the Adreno 612 GPU. As far as connectivity is concerned, the Snapdragon 678 Chipset has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that offers superior 4G LTE connectivity for streaming games, movies, and music. This is the same modem that is available in Snapdragon 675 SoC. It offers a peak download speed of 600Mbps and a peak upload speed of 150Mbps. In addition, Snapdragon 678 SoC has support for Bluetooth 5.0 with a speed of 2 Mbps, WiFi 802.11ac Wave 2, 802.11a/b/g, 802.11n, Beidou, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, and NFC. It is also capable of 4K video capture, triple camera photos of up to 48MP, and dual camera support of up to 16MP. Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 SoC supports FHD+ displays with a resolution of 2520 x 1080 pixels. It also supports Qualcomm’s TrueWireless Stereo Plus technology, Qualcomm Aqstic audio technology, and Qualcomm aptX audio technology for a superior audio experience.
