Mate 30E Pro Hands-on Review

Last Update 2020-11-30

Huawei unveiled Mate 30E Pro alongside Mate 40 series at the October 22 event. As the name shows, the Mate 30E Pro is a little cheaper than the Mate40 series, and hence you have to compromise some features. There is a Kirin 990E chipset (inside Mate30E Pro) rather than Kirin 9000 available in Mate 40 series smartphones. Mate 30E Pro has a 40MP primary sensor while Mate40 Pro sports a 50MP lens. Let’s see what other features Mate 30E Pro brought to consumers.

Look

Mate 30E Pro looks identical to last year’s Mate 30 i.e. a notched display with no bezel or chin and a circular back camera hub. All the colors are attractive, Black, Space Silver, Cosmic Purple, Emerald Green, Orange, Forest Green. While holding, I noticed the Mate 30E Pro made me feel large (just like other Mate smartphones). In numbers, the device is 158mm tall, 73.1mm wide, and 8.8mm thick, measuring 198grams of weight.

There are two selfie lenses above the screen, while the Fingerprint Sensor is available under the screen. I registered up to five fingers and unlocked the Mate 30E Pro every time after a single blink. In physics, FR works in less than a second. Unfortunately, there is no 3.5mm audio jack just like the other Mate 30 series did.

Mate 30E Pro avoids scratches and cracks, thanks to Alumino-silicate glass (on both front & back). It is also splash-proof and gets an IP68 rating (waterproof up to 2m of depth for 30 min).

Display and Software

Mate 30E Pro boasts a 6.53inches OLED Display and 1176x2400p resolution for Full HD+ Netflix movies. Brightness is enough for indoors and outdoors. The color saturation is brilliant (as expected). Coming to the software, the Mate 30E Pro runs a Huawei customized EMUI 11 on top of Android 10 OS (open source). Huawei Mobile Services is replacing Google Mobile Services and brings a lot of Android alternatives i.e. account kit, location kit, ad kit, Huawei app gallery, etc.

Optics

Mate 30E Pro brings four rear cameras. The main is a 40MP (f/1.6) wide-angle lens for enhanced low light photography. The secondary is an 8MP (f/2.4) telephoto, third is a 40MP (f/1.8) ultrawide and the fourth is a 3D Time of Flight sensor.

Video rec: Mate 30E Pro is eligible to create 4k videos at 30/60 fps, FHD at 120fps and 960fps, and Super Slow-mo HD streams at 7680fps. EIS and OIS are available.

Coming to the front, Mate 30E Pro comes with dual selfie cameras including 32MP f/2.0 wide and 3D TOF sensor. The combo clicks detailed pictures and splendid HDR images. With the Mate 30E Pro, users can make Full HD video calls.

Internals

As we told above, Mate 30E Pro comes powered by Kirin 990E SoC, built on 7nm+ node. There is an Octa processor including 4-core Cortex A77 and 4-core Cortex A55 processor. Mali-G76 GPU delivers excellent graphics. Mate 30E Pro comes in 8GB DDR5 RAM to let the user play heavy mobile games like PUBG, Fortnite and Call of Duty. UFS 3.0 Storage options are available, 128GB and 256GB.

Coming to the next, Mate 30E Pro packs a non-removable Li-Po 4500mAh battery, which gives 20 hours of 3G talks, 10 hours of web browsing, and 12 hours of video playback. The handset takes one hour to recharge fully, thanks to 40W Fast Weird Charge. Mate 30E Pro is also compatible with a 27W Wireless Fast Charge.
