Introduction
Huawei Nova 7 5G, Nova 7 Pro 5G, and Nova 7 SE 5G have launched in China and the phones succeed the Nova 6 series from last year. The Nova 7 and Nova 7 Pro tout premium design and high-end specifications such as curved OLED displays, all-glass finish, and the all-new Kirin 985 SoC and 5G support to name a few. The more affordable Nova 7 SE is powered by the Kirin 820 chipset and also supports 5G. While the Nova 7 and Nova 7 SE sport a single punch-hole cutout, the Nova 7 Pro ships with a pill-shaped punch-hole cutout for dual selfie cameras. The smartphones also feature 64MP quad cameras and 40W fast-charging support.
Price and availability
Huawei Nova 7 5G price in China is set at CNY 2,999 (approx Rs 32,200, $424) for the 8GB +128GB variant and CNY 3,399 (approx Rs 36,500, $480) for the 8GB + 256GB storage option. The Nova 7 Pro price starts at CNY 3,699 (approx Rs 40,000, $523) for the 8GB + 128GB variant and goes up to CNY 4,099 (approx Rs 44,000, $579) for the 8GB + 256GB version. Lastly, the affordable Nova 7 SE is priced starting at CNY 2,399 (approx Rs 25,000, $339) for the 8GB + 128GB variant and goes up to CNY 2,799 (approx Rs 30,000) for the 8GB + 256GB configuration. These smartphones are already up for pre-booking in China and will go on sale starting April 28th. Huawei is offering Nova 7SE in Magic Night Black, Silver Moon Star (White), Wonderland Forest (Green), and Midsummer Purple color options. The Huawei Nova 7 5G and Nova Pro 5G are being offered in Bright Black, Midsummer Purple, Wonderland Forest (Green), Honey Red, and Color 7 (White) colors.
Design and Display
The Huawei Nova 7 Pro is definitely the high-end variant and is equipped with a 6.57-inch OLED curved display with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. The device has a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio and also supports DCI-P3 color gamut. The display is also certified by TUV Rheinland. On the front panel, it has a dual punch-hole camera setup for selfie shooters. The Nova 7 features a similar design and shares several features with the Nova 7 Pro.
The Huawei Nova 7 packs a slightly smaller 6.53-inch FHD+ OLED display with a single punch-hole selfie camera located at the upper left corner. The more affordable Nova 7 SE has a 6.5-inch full-screen single punch-hole design just like the Nova 7. All three phones have quad-camera setup on the back panels for photography experience. While the elder brothers have an under-display fingerprint sensor, the Nova 7 SE offers a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for authentication.
Front and rear cameras
For photography, the Nova 7 Pro has a quad-camera setup comprising a 64MP main sensor with f/1.7 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, an 8MP telephoto camera, and a 2MP macro lens. For selfies, the device packs a dual selfie camera setup – a 32MP auto-focus + 8MP wide-angle combo. The camera comes with features such as SLR level BM3D noise reduction, eye tracking AF, dazzling beauty, Super Night 3.0, wide-angle distortion correction, and others. The camera can also focus quickly in low light, regardless of distance. The Nova7 Pro supports 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and up to 50x digital zoom.
It supports dual-structure OIS optical image stabilization and AIS telephoto super image stabilization. The Nova 7 has the same Quad rear camera setup as the Nova 7 Pro. In terms of video, the Nova 7 Pro and Nova 7 also support video tracking, high-definition image stabilization, 1080p high-definition output, and 15x zoom. On the other hand, the affordable variant (Nova 7 SE) has a 64MP main sensor paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle, a 2MP depth of field sensor and a 2MP macro lens. On the front panel, it has a 16MP sensor instead of 32MP for selfie experience.
Processor, battery, and software
The Huawei Nova 7 and Nova 7 Pro are powered by the Kirin 985 processor which is a 5G chipset. It is manufactured using TSMC’s 7nm process and integrates a single-chip 5G baseband solution without a plug-in. It supports 2G / 3G / 4G / 5G network standards and NSA / SA 5G dual-modes. The theoretical maximum downlink rate is 1277Mbps and the uplink rate is 173Mbps. In comparison with the Snapdragon 865 processor integrated with Snapdragon X55 modem, the downlink rate is said to be about 40% faster while the uplink rate is about 75% faster. Honor’s president earlier stated that “the Kirin 985 bridges the gap between the Kirin 990 and Kirin 820 processors.”
The processors of both phones are paired with up to 8GB of RAM while there are 128GB and 256GB storage options available. Huawei Nova 7 SE on the other side has a Kirin 820 5G chipset. It also comes in 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB flavors. The Nova 7 series runs on Android 10-based EMUI 10.1 OS and supports NFC. Further, all three smartphones have sizeable 4,000 mAh batteries. The phones support 40W super-fast charging and can fully charge the battery in one hour.
