Samsung launches new 108MP ISOCELL HM3 sensor and S Pen Pro

Samsung unveiled its first 108MP ISOCELL Bright HM1 1/1.33″ sensor last year that was used in Galaxy S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra phones. Then, the company introduced its 108MP ISOCELL HM2 1/1.52″ 0.7μm sensor, which comes with Xiaomi’s Mi 10i smartphone. Now it has launched ISOCELL HM3 1/1.33″ camera sensor with better autofocus and low-light output. This new sensor arrives with the latest Galaxy S21 Ultra smartphone. In addition, Samsung also announced a new S Pen Pro. Samsung’s S Pen Pro is physically larger than the standard Galaxy S21 Ultra S Pen, and it comes with Bluetooth Low Energy support.

Samsung ISOCELL HM3 is a 1/1.33″ sensor with 0.8μm-sized pixels. It has an improved Super PD Plus feature for faster autofocus. Talking about it, Samsung says that “Super PD Plus adds AF-optimized micro-lenses over the phase-detection focusing agents, increasing measurement accuracy of the agents by 50-percent.” Samsung has also improved the low-light performance of its latest sensor. It has Smart ISO Pro which is a high dynamic range technology that uses an intra-scene dual conversion gain solution. Light sensitivity has also been improved by 50% for brighter and clearer images in low-light environments. It supports 8K at 30 fps, 4K at 120fps, and FHD at 240fps video recording. The 108MP ISOCELL HM3 image sensor has nine-pixel binning to merge nine neighboring pixels together to deliver images of 12MP with large 2.4μm-pixels.
