Lenovo ThinkPad 10 VS Microsoft Surface Pro 2

Introduction

Lenovo ThinkPad 10 is latest product from Lenovo. They have try to put everything into it that any mobile device should have. It is designed with business optimized features and gives a wonderful experience of small size computer. It has immense capacity for work, play and entertainment.  

The product in competition with Lenovo ThinkPad 10 is Microsoft Surface Pro 2. Surface pro 2 was announced in February 2014 and released in the market in April and by now has been in the market for about 6 weeks and established an opinion about itself. It has been fairly popular and did good business.

Lenovo ThinkPad 10 has yet to appear in the market and what reception it gets depends when it lands in the market. The two have some common features but a lot different. They do provide the basis for comparison and maybe at some stage we find it difficult to prioritize them. It would be unfair to give superiority to one product over the other in just brief description of the two. Both have their strong points and both have different characteristics.

Design And Display

Surface pro 2 is already in the market and the users are well versed with its design and display. It has 10.6 inches TFT capacitive touch screen 1920 x 1080 pixels. In comparison Lenovo ThinkPad 10 has 10.1 inches IPS LCD capacitive touch screen 1920 x 1200 pixels. Both have the icons displayed on the screen. Surface Pro 2 has bigger screen as compare to Lenovo ThinkPad 10.

Lenovo ThinkPad 10 does not have ghosting effect and no trailing is seen or felt. It gives better view from all angles and has better color effect. This way it has superiority over TFT capacitive touch screen.

Lenovo ThinkPad 10 has a 560g Weight and Surface Pro 2 has a 675.9g weight. If we compare both of them according to the weight Lenovo ThinkPad 10 is less in weight and easy to carry instead of Surface Pro 2. The Surface Pro 2 is a bit heavy rather than the Lenovo ThinkPad 2.

Software And User Interface

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 runs Windows 8.1 RT.  It is pre installed on ARM (Advanced RISC Machines) multiple sets processor consist on reduced instruction set computing. It is touch optimized version of office 2013 applications. However it does not include some features like Group Policy and Domain support.

Lenovo ThinkPad 10 runs Windows 8.1 PRO that does not allow the installation of Windows Media Center add-on.

 The two devices have user friendly features and provide a lot to the users; you can do all business work with all computing efficiency, play the games for entertainment and do anything. The difference lies in actuality and anticipation. Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is in the market and users are well aware of the efficiency of the machine. They have their opinion established. On the contrary, Lenovo ThinkPad 10 is still building its reputation on anticipation and expectations of a better machine being the latest arrival in the category.

Processor And Memory

The two machines have the same processor; Intel Core i5 4200U Dual core, 1.6 GHz. Despite being same, there is a big difference between the two; Microsoft Surface Pro 2 has dual core processor whereas Lenovo ThinkPad 10 has same processor with quad core. Comparing the two, quad core is better version than dual core because quad core is later invention based on analysis of dual core processor. This way Lenovo ThinkPad 10 is better equipped and more efficient in multi tasking and the entire load does not come on single or dual core.   

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 is equipped with 4 GB RAM, with inbuilt memory of 64 GB which is extendable up to 128 GB externally by micoSD card. This is enough to contain huge databank. On the other hand, Lenovo ThinkPad 10 has two options in selection of RAM; 2 or4 GB, and has same size of memory as Microsoft Surface Pro 2 (64 in built memory extendable to 128 GB externally).

Camera

Microsoft Surface Pro 2 has two cameras; Primary 5 Mega Pixel and, secondary having capacity of 3.5 Mega Pixels. They have good results and measure up to the expectation of the user.

Lenovo ThinkPad 10 is also equipped with two cameras; Primary camera of 8 Mega Pixel is better and more efficient than that of Microsoft Surface Pro 2. The secondary camera of Microsoft Surface Pro 2 with 3.5 mega pixel is better than 2 Mega Pixel secondary camera of Lenovo ThinkPad 10.

Battery

Surface Pro 2 Non-removable Li-Ion battery up to 4 hrs and on the contrary Lenovo ThinkPad 10 battery looks better Up to 8 Hrs talk time. Comparing the two ThinkPad 10 scores better on this account. Non removable battery is a negative point in Surface Pro 2.
