G-vs-G-2014

Design And Display

It is generally said that the Moto devices are not very stylish in design but they have reasonably presentable shape. They are similar in size because their rear casing can be interchanged. Both handsets have the similar features in their make and shape, yet they are somewhat sophisticated. The later device is more comfortable to hold in the hand. Moto G 2014 has dimensions measuring 1415 x 707x11 mm and weighs 149 grams. This is fairly reasonable combination of dimensions. On the contrary Moto G 2013 measures 1299x 659x11.6 mm and weighs 143 grams. Obviously the difference in the size is visible in the dimensions.

Moto-G-vs-Moto-G-

The two handsets differ in their display size but users have their own choice. Motorola Moto G 2014 has 5 inches large display with 720x 1280 pixels resolution and is in line with the tradition of flagship smartphone displays. In comparison Moto G 2013 has smaller display, measuring in size 4.5 IPS LCD inches with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. It is suitable size for the configuration of the handset. But in resolution and display quality 2013 is better shows colors in their brightness and true hue. For the users it really does not matter what is the size of the handset but for comparison sake this is one difference.

Software and User Interface

Generally the handsets do not have interface customization feature but here in this case you have the customizable Motorola Alert, Motorola Assist and Motorola Migrate. Both the handsets have exactly same user interface experience but the new one has transparent background with apps panel. Another differentiating factor is the operating system. New Moto G runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat and the older Moto G has Android 4.4.3 KitKat operating system. Beside the operating system we hardly find any major difference.

Processor and Memory

It is pre supposed in the mind of the users that the later would be having everything different and improved and in the category of improvements they include processor and memory as well but that is not the case both are the same and we cannot say who wins and who loses. Both are provided with the power of 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor with Snapdragon 400 system on chip and Adreno 305 GPU. Motorola placed 1 GB RAM inside of the both handsets. Both the handsets have 8 GB on board memory. The on board memory can be extended up to 32 GB but only in Motorola Moto G 2014. The Moto G 2013 is void of this advantage and is restricted to on board 8 GB of internal memory.

Camera

Camera is an essential unit in all the mobile phones and smart phones. We cannot imagine a handset without camera and the handset is considered incomplete without a camera. Therefore the manufactures are emphasizing on the quality of cameras in their handsets. Similarly these Moto G handsets also carefully designed and installed. Both the handsets are just the same in interface and shooting modes. Still there is a difference in the hardware of the cameras of the two handsets. The new one is equipped with 8 mega pixel rear camera as compare to 5 mega pixel camera in the Moto G 2013. They both are supplied with an LED flash and 720 pixel video recording. So it is difficult for us to give more marks to one and prove the inferiority of the other. It is the user who has to set his priority and prefer the purchase of one in favor of the other. From our point of view they are the same. However the later issue has more powerful camera and more capability then the previous one therefore has to give better results. The later one gives better results in showing the colors and quality of image with more details minutely refined. Here we are inclined to prefer the later version over the other. Well the older one has been doing its job fairly well.

Battery

Battery is the wonderful part of the handset. Other hardware maybe wonderfully made and of very high quality. We can write books on their features. They will remain mute and inert without the life line which is only held in the battery it is the electric current that keeps the handset alive, shows the colors, creates the text and connects us with the outside world.

Both the handsets have the same battery of 2070mAh but the same battery have the different operating hours in both. The previous handset Motorola G 2013 is more power economical than the Moto G 2014. In the previous handset the battery lasts 7 hour 12 minutes while in the new handset it only goes 6 hours and 17 minutes, making a different of one hour. It is not the disadvantage of the new handset but the larger size has the more need by energy and that is way the difference comes in.

Bottom Line

In the above lines we have compared different aspects of Motorola Moto G 2014 and Motorola Moto G 2013. In both of them most of the features are similar and yet there are differences between the two. In the market both are equally popular. It was expected the handsets would be costing around $200 initially but it is pleasing for the users to know the handset is avaiable in $179.99. Probably Motorola is reading the pulse of the market and knows the desire of the users and accordingly has demanded not very high price which is quite affordable and economical for most of the users for such a handset.

Moto G 2014

The price of $179.99 is attractive and prima facie attracts the new customers for the new features the new handset offers. There is a sad news for the new handset the retailers have reduce the prices of older version down to $100. Generally the users look towards the features than the size alone. If they are getting the same features with less price, the size become immaterial for them. Here the Motorola Moto G 2014 will have a tough competition with its own sibling.
