While many of the noise around Apple's next iPhone has mostly centered on its expected support for 5G networks, a new report from Japanese tech blog Macotakara suggests the iPhone 12 could get a noticeable bump in WiFi performance as well. Apple's next smartphone, expected to be called the iPhone 12, will support (according to the source) new WiFi spec, 802.11ay, which is currently in the draft phase and expected to be finalized at the end of the year. 802.11ay uses a 60GHz spectrum (separate from the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands used in standard home router WiFi) to offer high-bandwidth device-to-device data transfer. The apparent use for this is sharing photos, videos, and more between iPhones.

According to the rumors, Apple will launch its next-generation iPhones with 5G connectivity and Bionic A14 Chipset. "With respect to 5G, I think we're in the early innings of its deployment on its global basis," Cook said during Apple's latest earnings call when asked about a potential iPhone 5G." Furthermore, recent reports also claimed that the Apple iPhone 12 would have another RAM boost, alongside the A14 SoC. Some other expected features of the iPhone 12 are quad rear camera setup, Face ID, powerful battery, and OLED display.
