Introduction
During an online launch event held in China today, Honor has officially announced the highly anticipated Honor X10 Max (successor to the 2018’s Honor 8X Max). Alongside it, the Chinese firm also unveiled the Honor 30 Lite (Youth Edition) handset. Needless to say, the main highlight of the Honor X10 Max is none other than its huge 7.09-inches display which aims to revive the interest for large-screen devices in today’s smartphone market. It is an LCD display that comes with support for FHD+ resolution and HDR 10. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800 chipset that offers a 5G network. For those who’re interested, the Honor X10 Max will be offered in three different colorways including Black, Silver, and Blue. In the Chinese market, it retails at a price of 1,899 Yuan ($269), 2,099 Yuan ($297) and 2,499 Yuan ($354) for its 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB models respectively.
Design and display
In terms of design, the handset follows a similar design scheme as the Honor X10 that was announced back in May. It has a rectangular-shaped camera setup and a slightly curved back. However, instead of a pop-up selfie camera like the Honor X10, the X10 Max offers a traditional waterdrop display design. There is a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Honor X10 Max measures 174.37 x 84.91 x 8.3mm and weighs 227 grams. One of the best eye-catching features of this phone is the 7.09-inch LCD screen. The LCD panel has FHD+ resolution and HDR10. The panel is supplied by JDI. And the screen ratio is as high as 91.13%. As the display is the biggest highlight of this phone, it supports 100% DCI-P3 wide color gamut, which is way better than an ordinary LCD screen.
The Honor X10 Max comes with an RGBW panel instead of the traditional RGB. Honor claims that “by using an RBGW panel, the X10 Max will ensure reduced power consumption as compared to traditional LCD panel phones.” In addition, the Honor X10 Max also supports the super-resolution algorithm. It can upgrade low-resolution old movies such as 480p to high-definition movies. The display also has an all-around eye protection mode to filter out blue light that is harmful to human eyes and protects the health of vision.
Front and rear cameras
The handset has a dual-camera setup on the back panel which includes a 48MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. The 48MP primary sensor of the phone has f/1.8 aperture, 26mm (wide), 1/2.0", 0.8µm, and PDAF technology. The water-drop notch on the front side houses an 8MP sensor for selfie experience. Also, both front and rear cameras support the super night scene algorithm. Honor X10 Max records 4k and Full HD videos at 30fps. However, the Selfie sensor only can record Full HD videos at 30fps.
Processor, software, and battery
In terms of 5G, the Honor X10 Max uses the MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G processor. It supports SA/NSA dual-mode 5G, 6 frequency bands such as N1/N38/N41/N77/N78/N79, and covers 5G mainstream networks. The 1T4R SRS antenna improves the download and upload speed. In addition, Honor X10 Max also supports multi-function NFC. You get to choose between 6GB RAM and 8GB RAM and up to 128GB of internal storage. The Honor X10 Max also features dual 1217 linear stereo speakers with smart PA for amplifying its sound. The phone also supports Huawei Histen 6.1 sound.
Other features include 802.11 ca Wi-Fi, AGPS, Glonass, and Beidou. As for software, the phone runs MagicUI 3.1, which brings multi-screen collaboration, smooth communication, knuckle screenshots function, smart gallery, and smart split-screen. To keep its lights on, the Honor X10 Max draws power from a 5,000mAh battery with 22.5W fast-charging support. Also, it supports smart AI power-saving technology, bringing up to 50.2 hours of music playback life.
