Introduction

Motorola Moto G8 Power and Moto G Stylus are here with the Android 10 operating system. Both devices offer sizeable batteries and versatile set of cameras in a decent feeling package. Moto G Stylus is a Motorola's first smartphone that comes with a Stylus Pen. Due to the G Stylus is a budget-friendly phone, so its Stylus can't support fancy pressure sensitivity and Bluetooth functionality. Both devices are now available for pre-orders but the shipment for global countries is expected to start in April. The affordable Moto G8 Power costs $249 while you'll buy the Moto G Stylus at $299 price.

Moto G Stylus and G Power design and display

Both phones look pretty much identical with punch-hole designs for selfie shooters. They also both feature 6.4-inch Full-HD+ LCDs, and are made from polycarbonate all around, with triple-lens rear cameras and capacitive fingerprint sensors on the back, and hole-punch selfie cameras nestled in the top left corners of their displays up front. Because the exteriors of both smartphones are fully made from plastic, and because Motorola has opted for a glossy, subtly-reflective finish on the back of these devices, the new G series, unfortunately, feel as cheap as their low prices suggest.

Anyway, we also must talk about Moto G Stylus's Pen. Without Bluetooth connectivity, the Stylus Pen is literally a pen with a capacitive tip that slots into the bottom right corner of the phone. In terms of dimension, the Moto G8 Power measures 156 x 75.8 x 9.6 mm while Moto G Stylus measures 158.6 x 75.8 x 9.2 mm. Both handsets feature USB-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom. The bottom also houses one of the speakers, while a second speaker lives in the earpiece. Those two speakers deliver stereo sound backed by Dolby audio. The phones have room for a single nano-SIM card and a microSD card. On the back panels, you'll find Motorola's typical rear fingerprint sensors.

Moto G Stylus and G Power cameras

The Motorola G8 Power and Moto G Stylus are aimed to be impressively versatile camera phones for photography experience. The first one – Moto G8 Power, has a quad-camera setup on the rear panel. The primary sensor of this phone offers a 16MP resolution with an f/1.7 aperture. It also has fairly sizable 1.75-micron pixels that should give it better performance in low-light settings. In modestly lit settings, the camera snapped crisp photos with well-balanced colors. Moto G Power also includes a wide-angle camera as well as a macro camera to help you capture subjects both large and small. The ultra-wide-angle camera shoots up to 8MP photos at f/2.2. The resolution shows itself quickly when zooming in, as the images appear considerably soft compared to the primary camera.

The other two sensors of the Moto G8 Power are an 8MP telephoto camera and a 2MP macro sensor. The macro camera manages to be even more impressive in spite of its 2MP resolution. It can capture some fine detail up close with a minimum focus distance of 2cm (less than an inch). It also uses large, 1.75-micron pixels. On the other hand, the second – Moto G Stylus comes with a triple camera setup on the rear side. The triple camera setup houses a 48MP primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, a 16MP ultra-wide shooter with f/2.2 aperture, and a 2MP macro lens with f/2.2 aperture. The 48MP primary sensor of Moto G Stylus can record 4k videos at 30fps as well as FHD videos at 30/60/120fps. The primary sensor also has 0.8µm pixels, PDAF, and Laser AF.

Both phones support Motorola's Night Vision mode, which uses a combination of a long shutter time and software processing to improve low-light photography. For the selfie experience, both cell phones have a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture and also can record only FHD videos at 30fps.

Moto G Stylus and G Power battery

Previous Moto G smartphones made long battery life an optional feature because you had to buy a particular model for the privilege. Not so for 2020, as Motorola has announced both the Moto G Stylus and G Power with big batteries: 4,000 mAh in the Moto G Stylus, and 5,000 mAh in the G8 Power. Motorola claims that the 5,000 mAh battery of Moto G8 Power can allow using up to three days while you can expect two days of longevity from the Moto G Stylus. As for fast charging, the G8 Power supports up to 18W while the G Stylus supports up to 10W.

Moto G Stylus and G Power performance

Under the hood, the Moto G Stylus and G Power have the same Snapdragon 665 processor with 4GB of RAM. Storage varies depending on the model. The Moto G8 Power offers 64GB of onboard memory, while the Moto G Stylus provides a generous 128GB storage. You can also add a microSD card, which will allow you to raise the memory for videos, games, and photos. Let's talk about both smartphones AnTuTu scores. Motorola Moto G8 Power gets 143000 scores. As the Moto G Stylus has powered by the same SDM 665 Chipset so, it also receives 143000 scores.

Moto G Stylus and G Power software

Motorola has announced both of its new G series phones with Android 10 OS. And although they're not technically Android One devices, they still run a pretty clean, pure-Google installation of the OS, with Google Photos as the default gallery app, and Google Messages for texting. Furthermore, Motorola's handy shortcuts — like twisting to launch the camera and chopping to turn on the flashlight — are still present, as well as a Dolby Audio tuning app designed to help you get the most out of both handsets' stereo speakers. There's also a new Moto Gametime app, which should offer quicker access to gaming-centric settings and controls when you're playing your favorite titles.

Verdict

Both the Moto G Stylus and Moto G8 Power appear to hit all the right notes: they're more powerful than their predecessors, they're equipped with massive batteries, and this time Motorola hasn't raised their prices — which is a rare feat nowadays, as costs continue to rise across all smartphone categories. The cheap-feeling build (Plastic material) is a bit disappointing but understandable at a reasonable price.
