Introduction

Oppo A31 2020 smartphone has been silently unveiled with a waterdrop notch and a large display after rumors and leaks. The smartphone recently targeted Indonesian markets and fell in a lower mid-range price point according to Indonesian pricing, i.e., Rp 2.599.000. According to the Indonesian listing, the phone is available in Fantasy White and Mystery Black color variants. The latest OPPO A31 has arrived as an affordable phone with minimal bezels, a waterdrop notch above the screen, and a triple primary camera setup on the back. Unfortunately, Oppo hasn't revealed the global availability information of this phone, but various speculations suggest that it will come (in other markets) at the end of this February.

Oppo A31 design and display

What could you expect from a budget-friendly phone? As a trend, the OPPO A31 comes with a flat display which houses a waterdrop notch for selfie shooter. On the back panel, you'll get a fingerprint sensor, a vertically shaped triple camera setup, and an LED flash. There is a power button on the right bezel of the phone while volume keys as well as dual SIM slot on the left side. Bottom of the phone houses a 3.5mm audio jack, a microphone speaker, a USB-C port, and a speaker grille. The glass front and plastic back both are looking nice. In terms of dimension, it measures 163.9 x 75.5 x 8.3 mm (6.45 x 2.97 x 0.33 in) while the weight of the handset is 180 grams only. According to the company, the front panel of the phone is coated with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch protection.

Let's talk about the phone display: the Oppo A31 features a 6.5-inch large screen that can provide HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels at 270 PPI density. Along with the 20:9 aspect ratio, the phone has 82.4 percent screen-to-body ratio. The screen (IPS LCD) of the phone supports up to 480 nits maximum brightness.

Oppo A31 Processor and Software

Under the hood, the Oppo A31 is fueled by a MediaTek's Helio P35 chipset built-on 12nm Octa-core process ((4x2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4x1.8 GHz Cortex-A53). The phone comes in a single memory variant equipped with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. However, you can expand further memory up to 512GB via micoSD card. As for software, it runs ColorOS 6.1 layer based on the top of Android 9 Pie operating system. There is a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The smartphone offers a ultra game mode for smooth gaming experience. In the settings term, you'll get a Face to unlock and fingerprint options for biometric security. The rear-mounted fingerprint sensor unlocks the phone screen just a short time. The OPPO A31 has scored 86352 points in AnTuTu. There are also some basic apps such as file manager, FM radio, Google Chrome, Virus cleaner, voice recorder, Night mode, and battery power save mode.

Oppo A31 cameras and battery

On the rear panel, there is a vertically shaped triple camera for photography experience. In the triple camera setup, it has a 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a 2MP macro shooter with f/2.4 aperture, and a 2MP depth shooter with f/2.4 aperture. The primary sensor also supports PDAF, portrait mode, and bokeh effect technology. The macro shooter with 27mm (wide), 1/5.0, and 1.75µm pixels can capture shots as close as 4cm. Oppo A31 allows to record FHD videos at 30fps as well as slow-motion videos at 760fps. On the front panel, there is an 8MP sensor for taking selfies and live recordings. The selfie sensor with f/2.0 aperture can record Full HD videos at 30fps. It also offers HDR mode and portrait mode for better selfie experience. On the other hand, the OPPO A31 packs a sizeable 4,230 mAh battery. Unfortunately, there is no option for fast charging.
