Vivo launches the V5 Selfie phone

The Chinese based mobile manufacturing company that excels in making low-cost phones and has earned a position in the mid-range devices in the smartphone market since its debut in 2009. Products like V series, X series and the Y series are some of the successful additions.

Announced in November 2016, The V5 was a good and reliable mid-range smartphone with decent specs. Recently Vivo Mobiles launched the V5 extensions, the V5 Plus and V5 lite smartphones with highlights on their front cameras for Selfie lovers.

 

 

The two variants come with slightly different specs. The Plus device lands in the upper range while the lite version, as the name suggests, is a low-spec model of the original V5.

 

Vivo V5 Plus

The device will sport a 5.5” FHD IPS display. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core chip clocked at 2.0GHz paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage expandable to 256GB via a microSD card. The device houses a 3160 mAh battery supporting Fast Charge via USB and a fingerprint sensor is integrated in the front Home button. The device is only available in Gold color.

On the department of Camera, the Vivo V5 Plus is equipped with a 16MP rear camera with LED flash, not very impressive right? Here is what makes this phone stand out; A dual front camera set up of 20MP and 8MP sensors. The 20MP sensor uses Sony’s IMX 376 image sensors fixed at f/2.0 aperture with a 5P lens set to bring you High res images with extraordinary clarity and vividness. Various setups integrated with the front camera allow for taking selfies with a touch of Professional photography techniques like soft lighting provided by a front LED soft flash. This coupled with the iPhone inspired Bokeh effect on the front camera makes it an interesting grab for selfie lovers! More features include the Face Beauty Mode 6.0 that digitally enhances the lighting and shadows of the image for a picture perfect spree.

 

 

Vivo V5 lite

The little brother of V5 supports similar features with minor differences. The dimensions are the same.The lite version offers a 5.5” HD display instead of the FHD resolution on its big brother. An octa-core processor paired with 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage expandable to 128GB via microSD card. The device houses a 3000 mAh battery with Fast Charging support.

The V5 lite is equipped with a 13MP rear camera. Front camera features a 16MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture with similar features in the V5 Plus. The Lite variant comes in a Crown Gold and Rose Gold colors.

 

Platform and release date

Both devices run on Vivo’s Funtouch OS 3.0 user interface based on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow platform. There are no notifications as to Android 7.0 will be available on this device.

The two devices are to be released in the market by 20th January. The VIVO V5 Plus is expected to be sold for around $400 while the V5 lite will cost around $200. These values are only projections and not yet confirmed. More will be revealed later.
