At the Tech Summit 2020, Qualcomm introduced the flagship Snapdragon 888 5G chipset, which will power upcoming flagship Android phones. The Snapdragon 888 SoC has been unveiled as the successor to the Snapdragon 865 and the naming scheme is interesting here as the chipset was widely expected to be called the Snapdragon 875. Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 arrives with a 3rd generation Snapdragon X60 5G Modem-RF system. It has support for 5G carrier aggregation, global multi-SIM, standalone, non-standalone, and dynamic spectrum sharing.

The newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Chipset comes with a sixth-generation Qualcomm AI Engine that comes along with a “completely redesigned” Qualcomm Hexagon processor to deliver new artificial intelligence (AI) experiences. There is also a second-generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub for lower-power, always-on AI processing. The 3rd generation Snapdragon Elite Gaming brings significant upgrades to Qualcomm Adreno GPU performance and with faster gigapixel Qualcomm Spectra ISP, the chipmaker says users can capture photos and videos at 2.7 gigapixels per second or roughly 120 photos at 12MP resolution—which is up to 35 percent faster than the previous generation. During the announcement of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor, Xiaomi confirmed that the upcoming Mi 11 series will be one of the first phones to use the flagship chipset. ASUS, BlackShark, Lenovo, LG, Meizu, Motorola, Nubia, Realme, OnePlus, OPPO, Sharp, Vivo, and ZTE are also confirmed to unveil phones with the Snapdragon 888 SoC.
