HTC Nexus 2016 Specs leak: A worthy successor

It has a been a quiet year for Google as people seem to have forgotten the perkiness and the premium feel of the Nexus 6P and the Nexus 5X amidst the dust of the rumors of the new iPhone. Now that we have solid information about the high-end phones of almost all Tech Giants excluding one, it is time to jump right back to the Nexus Phones which are to be this year’s offering by Google.

Although Google has remained quite successful in protecting its phones from leaks until now but as the days grow less in the phone’s initial release, we have information on at least one of the upcoming Nexus Phones. For those of you not aware, Google had launched two phones the previous year, the High-end Nexus 6P which was made by Huawei and the Nexus 5X designed by HTC.

This year’s lower end Nexus phone codenamed “Sailfish” just moved out from the big ocean for us to have a look at it. We now have a complete roundup of specs for the upcoming nexus phone which will tell us more about Google’s new plan to win the market.

According to the unnamed source, the phone will exhibit a 5.0-inch screen with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. This amounts to a pixel density of 440 ppi. The screen feels pretty solid and might continue to be an IPS-LCD display panel. We are expecting a bump in the protection of this screen with a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 but this has not been confirmed as yet.A 2.0GHz quad-core processor will power the phone under the hood. 4GB of RAM is expected to be installed in the phone. The addition of RAM is subtle and is a delightful addition to the phone. The phone is expected to be of the same size but as the technology advances, the product goes cheaper and makes room for more. The new Nexus will have a 2,770mAh battery which is a tiny upgrade over the Nexus 5X’s battery. We have reports that the camera on the device will be a 12MP shooter. The report about inclusion of OIS have not been confirmed as yet. An 8MP front snapper will allow a fast and snappy camera experience. Keeping on the tradition of the 5X, it makes no sense to drop the Fingerprint sensor. This has also been confirmed by the sources that the device will host a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. USB-C port seems to make the cut and is a part of the new device

The phone might boast one or more speakers placed at the bottom end of the phone. We are not confirmed of that till date but what we do know is the phone has definitely learned a thing or two from the headphone jack fiasco and has decided to keep it. The phone will have it on the top placed closely to a microphone.

We also have reports about the phone being a 32 GB model but that has not been confirmed as Google might opt to put out different sizes for different prices. The confidence we keep in these specs is quite high and the phone is expected to show these specs at its release. The processor has been rumored to be a Snapdragon 820 chip which being clocked at a 2.0 GHz is definitely not the fastest chipset in the market but will suffice to the needs of an ordinary man.

The High-end smartphone which has been codenamed as “Marlin” is expected to have a processor which is faster than the one present in “Sailfish” hence we deduce it to be a Snapdragon 821 chip which will be clocked at a higher frequency. All of these facts are based on reports and might depict differences from the actual product but the new Nexus phone might turn out to have the same specs as mentioned.

Considering the specs mentioned, the phone shows great promise as it classifies to have everything a phone must have on paper. I have high hopes for the device to feel nice in the hand as HTC has been showing a strong game in the design department. The new Nexus phone will be no exception. All things considered, the phone aces everything on paper. Let’s wait to have the phone in our hands so we can perform an in-depth review of the device. We would be hearing more about these phones as their launch comes close, so stay tuned.
