ZTE has launched its latest smartphone, the Nubia Play 5G, during an online event today (April 21, 2020). The Nubia Play is now officially 2020’s second 144Hz-screen phone. However, unlike the first, it is a premium mid-tier device rather than a brand’s flagship. Its 6.65-inch AMOLED display also has an in-built fingerprint sensor. The phone will go on sale in China starting April 24th, and pre-orders are already open.

The Nubia Play has a 6.65-inch AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Nubia states that the phone can dynamically switch between 90Hz and 144Hz refresh rates, according to the scene and support within respective apps. Unlike most phones, the Nubia Play doesn’t feature a notch or punch-hole selfie camera and instead offers a thicker top bezel that integrates the front camera, earpiece, and sensors. Under the hood, the phone is powered by the Snapdragon 765G processor, which comes with an integrated 5G modem. The SoC is coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. There’s a quad-camera setup at the rear, headlined by a 48MP primary sensor. An 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and two 2MP cameras are also on board, which are expected to be macro and depth sensors. Under the hood, there’s a 5,100mAh battery with 30W (USB-PD) fast charging.
