OPPO held its INNO Day 2020 event themed “Leap into the Future” in Shenzhen today (17-Nov-20). It introduced a new concept phone - the OPPO X 2021 rollable, OPPO AR Glass 2021, and OPPO CybeReal AR application. The company announced a new ‘3+N+X’ strategy where “3” refers to three underlying technologies, namely hardware, software, and services technologies. The ‘N’ represents a number of OPPO’s essential capabilities, including AI, security and privacy, multimedia, and interconnectivity. The “X” denotes innovative technologies and resources that have the potential to impact the user experience, such as imaging, fast charging, and new form factors.
The OPPO X 2021 concept smartphone features a continuously variable rollable OLED display. The device uses OPPO’s proprietary “Roll Motor Powertrain” to expand the display from 6.7-inches to a maximum of 7.4-inches. The device uses a comb-like internal structure, says OPPO. The powertrain consists of two motors that generate a constant force to unfold the phone uniformly, ensuring that the display isn’t damaged during the process. It even gives you the freedom to unroll the display as much as you want. The foldable phone also comes with a 6.8 mm arc. This arc allows the display to roll back without any visible folds. To protect the sliding mechanism from the back, OPPO has adopted a dynamic frame, consisting of an outer fixed frame and a sliding frame within.
