Realme 6i has been launched at an event in Myanmar as the world’s first smartphone with MediaTek Helio G80 chipset. This is the third smartphone to launch under the Realme 6 series, and it succeeds the Realme 5i from last year. The Realme 6i has a water-drop display instead of a punch-hole display as seen on the Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro. It also arrives with new color finishes and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Some key Realme 6i specifications include a 48MP AI quad rear camera setup and a 5,000mAh battery. The Realme 6i should be placed just below the Realme 6 (powered by the G90T) that was announced earlier this month.

Realme 6i price is set at KS 2,49,900 ($176 / Rs 13,000) for the base variant with 3GB RAM and 64GB storage. The 4GB RAM + 128GB storage option, meanwhile, has been priced at KS 2,99,900 ($212 / Rs 15,700). The Realme 6i comes in Milk White and Green Tea color options, and the smartphone will go for sale in the country starting from March 29. Interested buyers can pre-book the handset from March 18th to March 26th and get a free Realme t-shirt and a Bluetooth speaker.

Design and display

In terms of design, the Realme 6i comes with a gradient finish design on the back with a plastic back that features a unique painting pattern (with vertical lines). At the back, the Realme 6i houses a quad-camera setup arranged vertically. There’s a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor as well. This is yet another deviation from the other two Realme 6 series model, which feature side-mounted fingerprint sensors. The Realme 6i measures 164.4 x 75.x 9.0mm and weighs 195g. Unlike the Realme 6 and 6 Pro, the Realme 6i continues with the waterdrop display (Realme’s term for waterdrop) measuring 6.5-inches in size. The display offers a Full HD resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels with an 89.8% screen-to-body ratio and a 20:9 aspect ratio. The front panel of the Realme 6i is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Plus.

Front and rear cameras

On the back panel, the Realme 6i has a quad-camera setup on the back, and the primary is a 48-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The secondary is an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a 119-degree field of view and f/2.3 aperture while the tertiary is a 2MP black and white portrait lens with f/2.4 aperture. There is also a 2-megapixel macro lens (with f/2.4 aperture) on the back that can capture shots as close as 4cm. The phone supports many features such as Phase detection autofocus, ISO control, Continuous Shooting, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), Digital Zoom, Auto Flash, Face detection, and Touch to focus. The front camera, on the other hand, is a single 16-megapixel shooter with f/2.0 aperture fixed in a water-drop notch. Oppo Realme 6i can record 4k and Full HD videos at 30fps. The 16MP front camera also records Full HD videos at 30fps.

Processor, software, and battery

As we mentioned above, Realme 6i is the “world’s first smartphone to be powered by the new gaming-centric Mediatek Helio G80 chipset.” It was announced back in February, after the launch of Helio G70 SoC that powers the Realme C3. The Helio G80 processor sits just below the G90T gaming chipset from MediaTek. It features two Cortex-A75 performance cores clocked at 2GHz, and six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. There’s the Mali-G52 GPU handling the graphics. The company confirms that the Realme 6i scores nearly 201,278 on the AnTuTu benchmark. MediaTek Helio G80 has a slightly higher AnTuTu benchmark score than the Helio G70. The chipset onboard is coupled with up to 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

Realme 6i runs Android 10-based Realme UI out-of-the-box. Realme UI based on Android 10 provides many exciting features such as Dark mode, Partial screenshots, screen recording with internal audio, quickly go into the one-handed mode, personal information protection, swipe down to access notifications, double-tap to lock-screen, Realme share, dual-mode music share, camera UI improvements, focus mode, and Icon customization. Under the hood, Realme 6i draws power from the 5,000 mAh battery that can support up to 18W for quick charging.
