Poco X2 Hands-on Review, First Impression

Last Update 2020-02-04

The much-awaited Poco X2 has finally arrived on February 4, 2020. The newer Pocophone meets a new standard with Snapdragon 730G. We were disappointed at first not to see a high-end Snapdragon 800-series SoC but considering again that it is a Poco X2, not a Poco F2 - the successor toward the older cheapest flagship Poco F1 with the Qualcomm SD845 SoC inside. Yes, it is true that if you want to succeed Poco F1, the X2 should not be your choice. Apart from this, X2 is an excellent budget-friendly smartphone approaching the mid-end mobile features and lots of design and camera updates you love.

Is it true, Poco X2 a rebadged Redmi K30 4G?

Yes, it's right at all. Poco X2 is the clone of the Redmi K30 4G version. But the question you might think then why it is appealing. The Redmi K30 is available in China only, while Poco X2 is heading toward the outside world that is a plus point for it, and India is lucky to be the first destination of the new Pocophone.

Design

Poco X2 looks elegant, and especially the Phoenix Red gradient color option stands out among the other color variants, Atlantis Blue and Matrix Purple. While hands-on, the thing I noticed the Poco X2 made feel large and hefty in comparison to the regular phones. In numbers, the device is 165mm tall, 76.6mm wide, and 8.8mm thick - measuring 208grams of weight.

There are two punch-hole selfie lenses above the screen, and the Fingerprint Sensor moved to the right side. I registered up to five fingers and unlocked the Poco X2 every time after a single blink. In physics, FR works in less than a second. I am glad to see a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB-C port at the bottom. On the back, Poco X2 shows off a quad-camera setup with an LED flash aligned vertically and centered in a circular array.

Poco F1 had lost Gorilla Glass, but X2 is carrying a Corning Glass 5 on either back or front. It is made of plastic body and settles in the palm comfortably. Poco X2 has P2i coating, is splash resistant, and can bear a few drops of raining water. I love to put a case to avoid smudges and scratches since there is no IP6X rating.

Display and OS

Despite the AMOLED panel, everything is admirable there. Poco X2 boasts a 6.67inches IPS LCD Display and supports 1080x2400p resolution for FHD+ Netflix movies, 20:9 aspect ratio, and 500 nits of maximum brightness that is excellent for outdoors display activities. It is an HDR10 compliant and has a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother video streams. In terms of software, the Poco X2 runs a Poco customized MIUI 11 on top of Android 10 OS.

Chipset and Battery

As we told above, Poco X2 comes powered by Qualcomm SD 730G SoC, built on an 8nm node. There is an Octa processor in which two cores are ticking at 2.2GHz frequency, and the other six cores run at 1.8GHz clock rate. Adreno 618 GPU spreads the graphics on the screen. Poco X2 brings a 6GB or 8GB DDR4 RAM to let the user play hefty mobile games like PUBG, Fortnite, and Call of Duty. UFS 2.1 Storage is available up to 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

Take a look at the Poco X2 benchmark for overall performance. AnTuTu v7 awarded 218,200 scores to the Pocophone. Here are some other AnTuTu benchmark scores,

Redmi Note 8 Pro= 224,759

Poco X2= 218,200

Realme X2= 215,578

Coming to the next, Poco X2 packs a non-removable Li-Po 4500mAh battery, which gives 44 hours of 3G talks, 14 hours of web browsing, and 12 hours of video playback. Such a powerhouse tops up again 100% within 68minutes, thanks to 27W Fast Charge.

Camera

For photography lovers, Poco X2 carries four rear cameras. The first is a primary 64MP (f/1.9) Sony IMX wide-angle sensor, and secondary is an 8MP (f/2.2) ultrawide, third is a 2MP (f/2.4) macro and the fourth is a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor. Just like Redmi K30, both the daylight and night time shots are excellent. Blur mode finds grains sometimes, but overall, Poco X2 one of the best budget camera phones.

Video rec: Pocophone X2 is eligible to create 4k videos at 30fps, FHD at 120fps, and Super Slow-mo HD streams at 960fps. EIS supported, but OIS not.

Coming to the front, Poco X2 comes with dual selfie cameras - 20MP f/2.2 wide and 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. The combo clicks detailed pictures and beautiful HDR images. With the Poco X2, users can make Full HD video calls.

Poco X2 is even a bit cheaper than Redmi K30 4G. The smartphone is now available on sale, and it arrives in three memory configurations. The Poco X2 Prices in India are as follows.
