Finally, Samsung has launched their Ever Big 6.4-inch smartphone, The Galaxy Note 9. The Unpacked Event took place on August 9 in Brooklyn, New York. So, it is the time to talk about what’s new in the Samsung’s latest Note 9.
Pre-order, Shipment and Pricing Details
The Galaxy Note 9 Pre-orders have started on August 10. However, the Shipment will begin on August 24. Samsung Note 9 launches in two variants. The 128GB version is priced at $999 while the 512GB one is offered for $1250. The standard model price will start from £899 and €999 respectively for the UK and European markets.
According to the Indian Express, the Galaxy Note 9 will cost INR 67,900 in India.
Samsung Note 9 Specs and New Features
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 brings a 6.4-inch bigger display, new Bluetooth-enabled S-Pen with some remote control features, Bixby 2.0, Dual 12MP (f/1.5-2.4) + 12MP (f/2.4) Primary Camera setup, an 8MP (f/2.4) Selfie Camera, SD845/Exynos 9810 chipset, Adreno 630/Mali-G72 GPU, 6GB and 8GB RAM with 128GB and 512GB Storage Options, and a longer life 4000mAh battery with fast and wireless charging support.
In addition, the Samsung Note 9 is the first Android smartphone that comes with the pre-installed FORTNITE game. Furthermore, it is said that the FORTNITE will be available soon at Google’s Play Store for purchase.
Design and Display
Samsung Note 9 is 0.1 inches bigger and identical as compared to the Galaxy Note 8. It is fabricated with Aluminum Body rated with IP68 certification. The handset provides up to 1.5 meters of dust and water resistance for 30 minutes. It measures 161.9 x 76.4 x 8.8 mm dimensions and 201 grams weight.
There is an almost Full View display with much-minimized bezels on top and bottom. It has 18.5:9 aspect ratios, a selfie lens on top, a USB port at the bottom side and a horizontally-oriented Dual Rear Camera Setup in the top-center of the back. The LED flash is placed beside lenses. Below the optics, there is a Fingerprint Scanner.
There are five buttons on the smartphone including a Power on/off, two Volume rockers, a Bixby button, and a dedicated key for the Stylus Pen.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 boasts a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Display which boosts your animations with the 1440 x 2960 pixels resolution. The Smartphone has 516ppi density which is slightly lower than 521ppi of 6.3-inch Note 8. It is an HDR10 compliant, having 83.4% screen-to-body ratio and Always-on Display. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is used to protect touchscreen.
The Stylus Pen (S-Pen) and Samsung DeX
The year 2018 is lucky for S-Pen lovers. Yes! The New Note 9 comes with a Bluetooth-enabled Stylus Pen to access some remote control features. The S-Pen is colored with Yellow. It has a battery which can be charged by just putting it back into the Smartphone. Moreover, it is informed that the Stylus Pen takes just 40 seconds to recharge which is sufficient for 30 minutes of use or 200 clicks on the button at the S-Pen itself. Now, you can take photos, play multimedia, and stop games just with an S-Pen click. The S-Pen connectivity is accessible up to the 1-meter distance. With the 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, you can get the same handwriting experience as that of Galaxy Note 8.
Coming to the next, Samsung Note 9 supports Samsung Dex without any Dex Pad. All you need is just a Note 9’s accessory HDR cable to connect with the Samsung desktop.
Hardware and Storage
Samsung is offering two models of the Galaxy Note 9. The China and USA model is powered by Snapdragon 845 and Adreno 630 GPU while the EMEA model gets the same Exynos 9810 chipset and Mali-G72 GPU. It shows the actual hardware upgrade hits the SD845 version. However, the Exynos 9820 and NPU are still expected for the upcoming Samsung’s Galaxy S10.
Apart from this, there is an Octa-core processor ticking at 2.7 GHz frequency and a standard 6GB RAM to tackle multiple heavy apps. It uses the advanced cooling system to prevent from getting extra heat. You can save personal records in massive 128GB Memory. Also, you can get another Note 9 variant with colossal 8GB RAM and 512GB Internal Storage so you can install and save all you need. A Micro SD card slot is surprisingly there to offer you to expand storage further up to 512GB.
Battery and Wireless Charging
As we know, Battery is the most important thing for the smartphone. Therefore, the Galaxy Note 9 houses a non-stop 4000mAh Li-Ion non-removable battery so get ready to talk, play and watch for a long time. It is a big upgrade over the 3300mAh of the previous Samsung Note 8. The handset supports Fast and Wireless Charging, also.
It is misfortune for the Galaxy Note 9 that the Samsung didn’t use Quick Charge 3.0 (the latest), the previous Note 8’s Quick Charge 2.0 is used for the Note 9 and the user is not facilitated.
Camera, Super Slow-mo, and AR Emoji
Samsung Note 9 gets the same Dual 12MP + 12MP Rear Camera setup. The first one is wider which can switch to either of f/1.5 or f/2.4 aperture while the second lens is telephoto and has the f/2.4 aperture. The device enables OIS, PDAF, 2x optical zoom, and other AI Beauty effects so you can shoot splendid photographs, 2160p and 1080p videos at 60fps and 240fps respectively.
The Super Slow-mo is all new for the Samsung Note series. And, the Galaxy Note 9 is able to make amazing HD videos at 960fps. Moreover, it is capable to capture 0.4 seconds longer Super Slow-mo at 960fps videos, which is twice than that of Galaxy S9’s 0.2 seconds Super Slow-mo at 960fps.
For the selfie lovers, there is a traditional 8MP Front Camera with the same f/1.7 wider aperture. It enables dual video-calling experience and Auto HDR mode. You can create crazy AR 3D emoji, too. Following the traditional pattern, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 comes with Iris Scanner for a better, secure unlock.
Software and Bixby 2.0
There is no doubt on the availability of Android 8.1 (Oreo) on the Galaxy Note 9, as the Oreo is still the latest OS. Although there is no word on debuting Android 9.0 (P), we hope that Samsung will provide Android P update near in future.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has its own AI Virtual Assistant, Bixby. It is said that the Bixby 2.0 will roll out soon to hit Samsung smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9 supports the fastest 4G LTE Cat18 band to deliver 1200 Mbps download and 200 Mbps upload speed.5G is upcoming network in 2019, unfortunately the Galaxy Note 9 will not support the 5G thus the set owner will have to switch any another 5G supporting Smartphone.
The device comes in Single and Dual SIM models and has USB Type C, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, Iris scanner, fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, heart rate, compass, barometer, and SpO2 sensors. It arrives in Metallic copper, Lavender purple, Ocean blue, and Midnight black colors.
